Topic: Please Help! Temperature problem. Workbench Apprentice.

So after about 100 prints my printer finally gets a clog. I use the wire method to unclog it but I used a thicker metal rod (1mm) Then a smaller actual wire (about .2mm) and pushed the filament out thought I was good. Then the printer was only heating to 160*c so I tried a PID autotune and it went through the cycles got it to the 205 I was looking for. The errors came after like its says.
So I wrote the numbers down and restarted RH and printer. Plugged in the new PID threw it a M500 to save. All the sudden the temp goes to 0.0*c and i start getting errors for that. It repeated the errors about 6 times. I'm newer to printers and have never taken mine apart. any help is great. Thanks for your time.

The Error :
20:59:02.659 : ok
20:59:02.659 : Error:1
20:59:02.659 : : Extruder switched off. MINTEMP triggered !
20:59:02.659 : Error:Printer stopped due to errors. Fix the error and use M999 to restart. (Temperature is reset. Set it after restarting)

Any help would be great. Thanks

Based on the info you've provided this could be a couple things.  Assuming you didn't break or short the thermistors wires.  I would guess you messed up entering the PID numbers.  You can enter those values in EEPROM so no reason to enter them manually.  You should look at EEPROM and verify the PID numbers before anything else and let us know.

Well I did mess up the wires for the hotend sad will have to order a new one.not 100% sure what EEPROM is or how to use it thats why i've been just using commands.

Hmm now it wont let me even heat up my main extruder. the second extruder was the one with the clog.

Well broken or shorted thermistor wires will cause errors.  Just spend some time fixing the wires if you can, no reason to replace the whole thing.

EEPROM would be this screen.

Re: Please Help! Temperature problem. Workbench Apprentice.

Okay a few questions.

the wires attached to the actual peek is the thermostat ones correct?
when I pinched down on those the temps went back up a tad until I released.

What would one use to get them held back in place? just solder or something else.

What is the yellow-ish tape around the nozzle?

Thank you so much Wardjr.
I'm not very tech savvy but i'll give fixing it a go before I order a new hotend.

One last question it is plausible to tell the printer there is only one extruder(To stop errors) to be able to use that one till the new one arrives if I do end up having to order a new one correct?

Re: Please Help! Temperature problem. Workbench Apprentice.

That yellow tape is Kapton tape and you should try and get some.  If you have wires that have a bad connection you can twist them together or use solder.  If you have found the area that seems bad focus your energy there and see what you can come up with to fix it.  Give your level of experience or lack thereof I don't think it would be easy to eliminate one of the nozzles.  If you post some pictures I would be happy to guide you through the process of fixing it.
If for what ever reason you can not get it fixed please consider other alternatives other than SD.

Re: Please Help! Temperature problem. Workbench Apprentice.

Awesome thanks for the info. I removed the broken tape from the wire location to get a better look and they fell off the peek.

a few pics i think i did break the thermistor.

two black wires are the ones that popped off.

Re: Please Help! Temperature problem. Workbench Apprentice.

The good news is you've found out what the problem is and thermistors are cheap.  All you have to do is strip some insulation off those wires and twist the leads of a new one to the bare wire.  Wrap the wires with some Kapton tape and tape the new thermistor back in place.
Shopping list:
Semitec 100kOhm NTC Thermistor.  (Buy extras they're cheap)
Some Kapton tape.

Sweet Thank You so much for your help. Is there a place/site you get your electronics from?

Re: Please Help! Temperature problem. Workbench Apprentice.

I would just look around thermistors are everywhere.  You can always get them from filastruder.com but I would look for someplace that sells Kapton tape also.

Re: Please Help! Temperature problem. Workbench Apprentice.

Okay so I ordered 6 thermistors and 2 rolls of 6mm kapton tape. They should be in Sat or Mon. Will post an update to show how it goes. May need further help installing, but I shall cross that bridge when it comes.

Again Thank you so much for the help.
