The hot end does not dictate them. The gear on the motor does. If it is not changed from stock then you can keep current settings. If however you build a new extruder to accomodate the bowden feed tube and you use a different motor and gear then you will need to change the e-steps.
There is no set number you have to make the extruder move a set amount and measure that move with a ruler or caliper to confirm it is the desired length. This is done before the filament enters the hotend. If it is short then you increase the steps. If it is long then you decrease them till it feeds the right amount. I just use a scrap section of filament about two feer long. I can feed 100mm measure it then reverse it 100mm and repeat till correct.
The issue is that stock firmware and host do not allow direct control of the machine. At the very least if you want to avoid flashing just confirm the esteps are correct, you would need stock firmware and purchase Simplify eD for $140.
Otherwise you would need to flash Repetier firmware and host to gain direct control.
