Re: Don't Forget Your Public Library!

The brand new Slover Library in Norfolk, Virginia has an ultimaker going online soon that will be very affordable for public use.  Library staff will be available to assist with printing.  Last I heard it will be PLA only because they don't want the ABS smell in the computer lab where it is kept.  I actually work for the City in another department and I may teach a brief class on 3D printing at some point there.

My university imposes a PLA restriction unless you want to pay the price of using their Stratasys (way too expensive). It's a shame!

Re: Don't Forget Your Public Library!

I mentioned to them that they could print nylon without a smell issue but they said they wanted to stick to ultimaker brand filament.  They are just nervous and not wanting to risk breaking it.  Too bad.

Source?  My understanding is that weedeater line contains a lot of other chemicals that are not in nylon filament.
I don't have time to look up MSDS info right now but I really doubt Taulman would be selling something that is "very toxic".

Re: Don't Forget Your Public Library!

I'm quite happy to see Chicago was mentioned a couple time (plus suburbs).
It's awesome to see this branching further than to just hobbyists and available to people, especially kids, who are interested. Here we have several workshops/Maker Spaces on top of business who openly print designs to the public, so it's a cool city to live in.

As far as my use of libraries and other spots, if both of my printers broke down, I'm sure I would have a few friends with printers around wink

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!
