Topic: Spare Parts

This may seem like an obvious question... but can someone recommend a good place to buy an assortment of metric screws, and the best type to get? (Socket cap?)

I'm assuming that a few standard sizes and appropriate washers/nuts would be good to keep on-hand for 3d-printer repairs and such.

If there is no good assortment, what are the most common sizes that you have found useful?  It seems like M3, M4, and M5 are used a lot, but I'm not sure what lengths are worth keeping around.

Thanks

Re: Spare Parts

M3 at any length. You will constantly find uses for them. Personally, I prefer socket caps, which are abundant on mcmaster.com
Stocking up on M4, 5, and 6 from Home Depot would be useful as well, but many printable designs (here, Thingiverse, etc) require M3.

Most Home Depots have a decent metric sectrion. I stock up on 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 16mm and 20mm length every time I go and I always run out.

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Spare Parts

Take a good look at the printer and see what is in there then pick up  a box of the most commonly used ones  As far as length one plan of attack is get the longest needed then cut to length. Do not forget set screws/grub screws for the pulleys.  And remember they may not all be metric. Not uncommon for metric and sae to be mixed in the same  product this includes 3d printers.
Mcmaster car is probably a good place to start looking sometimes a little high on prices but on of the best web sites for selection and to learn about hardware.

Re: Spare Parts

I've been ordering in bulk from Amazon Prime... Usually for me price has been better than local hardware stores.  I've got a bunch of M3s of mixed length in 100 ct boxes.  Will be awhile before I run out smile
