Topic: Slic3r vs. Cura

I've noticed some drastic differences in the slices created by slic3r and Cura. I'm using both with repetier host, but slic3r uses usually about 60% of the filament that the same print with the same infill settings would require with Cura. However, Cura usually prints the same thing in about 60% of the time; it is much faster.

I tried bumping the speed settings in slic3r up to match those in Cura, but the resulting prints seemed like they were underextruded, with holes in the top face.

Any good way to get the best of both worlds?

Re: Slic3r vs. Cura

I played with Cura for a bit, really liked the simplicity and slicing speed, but was thrown by lack of hex infill (which I love). Hex infill (default in slic3r) would be much slower (and probably use more plastic!) than the linear infill Cura does, even for the same %. Have you got slic3r and Cura using a comparable infill regime (e.g. slic3r 'rectilinear')?

Re: Slic3r vs. Cura

the result is not the same... cura drop a lot of "little details" to improve speed... it's not a problem for some model (like mechanical piece..) but can be problematic for small/ art piece with lot of fine details...

i use Cura in the last version of simplify3D (2.2.2)  and the result is not the best Versus the last version of slic3er (1.2.6)... even if slic3r result is a bit more slow than Cura..

try to zoom on specific place of your model and compare the gcode result from the two... sometime, you can find some very notable differences..

the last version of kissclicer (1.5 beta 2.7 ( http://www.kisslicertalk.com/viewforum. … 47dec68854 ) is also very good for a cleaner gcode..
