Topic: Bed Glass Warp Testing And Adjustment Questions

I have been using my printer without any issue for a few weeks. Things were working well enough that I only adjusted my bed 2 or 3 times over the course of 20+ prints and the only thing I did was clean the bed with alcohol every so often. I tweaked something and got my bed out of alignment and wanted to figure out as much as I could, so that later on I could adjust the bed from really way out (like if I took the printer to another location or someone turned knobs when I wasn't paying attention).

When looking at the front edge of the bed, it appears the glass or the plastic bed is warped. The edges of the glass are nearly flush with the top of the plastic, while the center is 'bowed' up about 2mm. Putting a straightedge across the glass shows its slightly bowed up, but not 2mm's worth.

Looking at the right hand side edge, I see a similar issue, but not as pronounced.

What do other's beds look like?

What would be an acceptable amount of warp in the glass?

None is acceptable.  They did not use tempered glass as evident by the cracking and chipping others as well as myself have had. Many have converted to another heater glass combo. One user here sells custom cut borosilicate glass with a factory heater like
the one now for about 50 bucks on ebay. The bad news is the warping will get worse and the glass will eventually break. So you may like me want to replace it before it happens.  If it breaks you could loose the heater as well since it is glued to the glass.

That's a great link, thanks!!

Did you replace your glass and if so, did you use the solution you linked to?

Why does the heater need to be glued to the glass? Wouldn't it be just fine compressed between the glass and the white thermal cloth (not sure what that is called).

There is nearly a 1/4 inch gap be,ow the glass. Maybe used as a thermal barrier to keep the heat from the body of the bed frame. So that would be why they glue as there is no support under the glass except at the corners. I am going to take the short cut and just have a local company cut me a piece of tempered glass to the 210 by 210 and place over the existing glass. The screws have about 4 mm of extra thread so I am having them cut a 3mm piece and polish the edges. They quoted me 26 bucks. That or I will buy one of the beds the other guy has made and is selling on ebay.
