Topic: Bed stops moving down during a print

I am just getting started with getting familiar with my printer and I still have lots of stuff to do. There is one problem, though, that I have not seen anywhere else so I figured maybe I could get some help here. I believe I have a SD3 with the printed head and 6x6 heated bed.

This has happened twice now, where I was printing an object, and the bed either stopped moving entirely, or skipped a few layers, resulting in the extruder head still extruding while moving around in the top of the print. The two objects were actually pretty similar, and it happened at about 1.5-2 inches into the print. I don't know if I've actually printed anything taller than that yet, so the error might be confined to that height.

I can get a picture if necessary and any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Pictures definitely help.
A couple of things... If you have an SD 3 the build platform should be 8x8.  If it is 6x6 than you have an SD2.
Either way it doesn't matter for your problem.  It sounds like your filament is stripped or your hot end is clogged, probably both.
Give us more info.
What Temps are you running?
What type of filament?
Is the printer stock or have you made modifications?

Re: Bed stops moving down during a print

I can get a picture of the two prints that failed, since I still have them.
So I'm still figuring out stuff with the extruder head, but I'm pretty sure this is a problem with the z bed messing up. The head keeps moving and printing and stuff, but the bed stops moving down during the print.
I've barely had time to play around with it, so it's still pretty much as it was when I got it.
Perhaps tonight I'll try again and closely observe it to see exactly what happens. Both times it was fine one minute and the next the tip was moving around in the ABS.

Re: Bed stops moving down during a print

Well then you probably just need to tweak the VREF for that motor.
It's a small Pot on the board next to where that motor plugs in.  Use a small non conductive screw driver and turn it up while the z axis is moving.  Too low and the motor will whine or stall.  Too high and the motor will groan.
That or something is binding so you may just want to add some oil to the screw and guide rods first.

Re: Bed stops moving down during a print

That looks like the sort of answer I was looking for, thank you. I will see if I can try that tonight, but I don't know if I will actually have time to test it with a print. I'll let you know if that works as soon as I can.
