Topic: My Solidoodle 4 doesn't connect

I bought a new Solidoodle 4 a couple of weeks ago. I unpacked it last week and started calibrating it and printing, everything was fine. But this Monday, there was a power failure, I wasn't printing anything but the printer was connected. Now, when I try to connect the printer to my PC, it doesn't even recognize the com port, or even the device. I've tried connecting it to other computers and the problem persists. I've tried using the software "USBDeview" to see if it shows the device, and it doesn't... Is there anything I can do? I fear for my just unpacked 3d printer.....

Is there anything I can do? is it really that fragile? I fear that I'll need to change the board... I hope that's not the case....

If it is a new SD4 you should start a ticket with SD.  I don't know that it is all that fragile but lets face it, you have no idea what kind of surge went through when the power went out.  I would start with a new USB cord and see what happens.  You may also want to double check your PSU as they tend to be fairly fragile.  That should have no effect on the USB connection but is worth looking over.

Past that don't be afraid of replacing the board.  See what SD is willing to help with and then think of this as an opportunity to upgrade to a much more capable board.  There are many to choose from and they can be relatively inexpensive.

Re: My Solidoodle 4 doesn't connect

Thanks wardjr, I already started a ticket with SD.
I'll change the USB cord and I'll check the PSU.

I know that it is not that hard to replace the board, but, I'll be frustrating just waiting for the parts to arrive.

Last time I tried to connect the power supply, it seemed to work fine (lights and the small fan turned on), also it's green led was also fine. I'll check the output voltage.

That is strange, keep us informed of any response you get from SD.
For what it's worth you could have a new Rumba installed and running before you hear back from SD.  Stay on top of them if you expect a timely response.

Re: My Solidoodle 4 doesn't connect

Hi,

I've tested my PSU, it says the output should be between 12V and 12,5V, mine is 12,7V. I'm not sure that can make a difference... is there a way to test the board itself?
