Topic: 3rd party filaments with repetier on da vinci 1.0a

HI all, I was wondering if anyone has tried to use other kinds of filament with the stock print head/extruder. I want to use PLA, maybe some of the wood filament, ninjaflex, or even the metal infused filaments. If it is not compatible is their something that I can modify/replace to make it compatible.
thanks

If yours is a 1.0 it would need the updated head once it is released. If you have a 1.0A then you can use PLA but not flexible filament as the gap between the gears and the feed tub is too wide and the filament will bend.

I would advise against wood. I tried some and lost two nozzles because of it. The particles of wood are not consistent and they will clog your nozzle.

If you want true flexibility then you would need to change the head to a full after market design and run Repetier firmware and host..

I do mostly wood. (I had an aio) now I have a duo 2.0a. The main issue it's that with 0.4nozzle you must keep the flow non stop. Also avoiding retractions helps (but fills with 'hair' lines that are easy to remove.

The problem with some woods it's that they are a bit brittle (specialy one dark wood) and the extruder bites too hard. I fixed mine with some metal parts to make it bite-less. Anyhow It's doable buut you will need airflow and bedoff to avoid curling on overhangs if the object has complex curves etc.

So yeah you can print wood but you must 'master' pla first to get the hang on curling on overhangs etc etc. I had to google a lot to get my printing speeds correct. Also most woods you can't print less than 0,2 because you need the flow constant to avoid jams etc.

IMPORTANT INFO: I sent away for a resetter so I could get cheaper filament elsewhere. The user guide included a notice that XYZ  is sending out new firmware THAT WILL MAKE YOUR PRINTER STALL AND REFUSE TO PRINT IF IT IDENTIFIES AN OPENED CARTRIDGE WITH 3RD PART FILAMENT. If you refuse the new firmware, the new code will get installed anyway in the background. The update does not include any new code that improves performance, it is just for stopping us from using anyone else's filament. The instructions also advised that I get Little Snitch which is an app that has a window pop up whenever there is background communication with outside providers of software, hardware, etc... XYZ is the only company that has this type of restrictive policy. Personally, I am ticked off that they would try to control my purchasing options---especially by installing barriers without my knowledge. If you can code, etc.. you can work around it or if your not code literate you can  reinstall the older firmware.

thanks for the info, i think i'm switching to Repetier today, the software and firmware are much to restrictive for my liking.  Do you have any suggestions for aftermarket nozzles?
thanks

Several have already adapted to the E3D hot end. I as well as another are going with the B3 Innovations PICO hot end. I am going to use that one in a Bowden setup. It will prevent me from doing flexible filament but the gain in speed and accuracy due to much lighter head will be worth it. Plus the PICO cand do ANY filament type.
