Topic: Raftless not sticking to bed

I've tried a few different temperature combinations since I got my Solidoode 2 (with heated bed) a few weeks ago but cannot seem to get the filament to stick unless I add a raft in Skeinforge. Every time I try to print without the raft the very first drop of plastic sticks to the head of the extruder and and is drug around the bed for a split second as seen in this video:

In this video the first 2 runs were at:
Extruder: 185c
Bed: 100c

And the last 3 were:
Extruder: 175c
Bed: 100c

I've tried other temperatures in the past with the same results.
Even when I print with a raft the first drop lifts up off the bed but not as much (I guess since it's thicker) and since it's on the "outskirts" of the object the rest of the print job is not affected.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Raftless not sticking to bed

I just searched the forums and found that this is a common problem. I'll try adjusting the level of the bed.

Re: Raftless not sticking to bed

I had a similar problem at the beginning and this was due to the Kapton film surface that would be too slick.
So I tried to scratch the surface a bit and since I have no problem.

What is the material of your Filament ? ABS or PLA ?
If it is ABS the Temperature seems to be too low. I use 190°C or 200°C

Printer: Solidoodle 2
Slicer: Slic3r
Soft: repetier

Re: Raftless not sticking to bed

First I would level bed, set z height adjustment.  Wipe kapton with acetone. Then retry,  adjusting z screw if necessary

You can also try that: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28787

Re: Raftless not sticking to bed

thanks guys. i leveled the bed and bumped the temps up to 210 and 110. i'm still getting a similar problem but it isnt as drastic. i just let the printer go without stopping it and it seems to be working fine.

is there a setting (in skeinforge) to make the first second or two of the filaments flow to not be apart of the object?

Enable brim or anchor

SD2 w/ mods: Rumba controller, ATX PSU, SD pro case, glass bed, with more to come...

Re: Raftless not sticking to bed

I switched back to ABS for a try and I've found I can print at 190 and a bed temp of 100. I was having some ooze problem and I upped the retract distance a bit and it seems to be ok now. I'm printing on a Kapton bed.
