Topic: Rough first print layers

I have a Rostock Max V2 printer that after checking half a dozen times am pretty sure its calibrated correctly. But for some reason the first couple of layers seem to come out very rough, after about 20-30 layers or so it smooths out into a what a typical 3d object should look like. I've tried using a raft to at least bring the rough layers lower but that doesn't work, even if the object prints off of 2 inches of support material (that look perfect by the way) as soon as the actual object starts printing it turns to crap for the same 20 layers or so and then smooths out. Any idea how to fix this? I've tried different temperatures, changing layer height, calibrating, slowing printing speed and ive got nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

What slicer are you using?

Matterslice which is the default program for my Matter Control program, I'm trying to setup Slic3r but Matter Control doesn't seem to friendly to imported programs.

Can you import the g-code from another slicer into Matterslice?

I've tried slicing something in Slic3r, then save the gcode and import it into Matter Control but it always tries to print the object half off the print bed. Like that wherever it is is the center of the bed, I've tried changing the size of the bed in Slic3r but that doesn't help. Do you know what causes this? Do you use a different slicer that works better (or that you prefer).

Did you set the print center in settings on Slic3r?

You might give KISSlicer a try for generating the gcode. http://www.soliforum.com/topic/348/kisslicer/
