Topic: Fixing over-extrusion

I have calibrated flow rate and feed rate, but my prints are still suffering form over extrusion. I know I have the right diameter for the filament set in slic3r since I am using stratasys filament. What other variables do I need to experiment with in order to get normal extrusion? Anything special I should be looking at?

Re: Fixing over-extrusion

Have you measured the free air extrusion  diameter of the filament.I have a.4mm nozzle and mine is about.53mm.

SD3, E3D hotend, linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

can you elaborate on free air extrusion diameter of the filament pls?  i also have a .4mm nozzle and same issue as OP

Re: Fixing over-extrusion

Even tho I have a .4mm nozzle, I have to tell RH it's a .5mm to get the right calibration. My free air extrusion width is .53mm. To measure it just run about 30 mm of filament thru before printing and measure  the diameter, of course you will need a caliper to do that.

Re: Fixing over-extrusion

Did you ever make any progress on this? I am curious about the quality of the prints with that filament

Re: Fixing over-extrusion

so basically just heat up the extruder and extrude some filament and measure the thickness of what comes out?  if so where in repetier host do i change this setting at?

Re: Fixing over-extrusion

Just a thought ,what is  the steps/mm for extruder in marlin firmware EEPROM settings? Default is set a 138mm which is incorrect most of the time.

Re: Fixing over-extrusion

Because it's so easy to change in R-H EEPROM no one bothers with it in the firmware.
