Topic: new simplify3d v2.2 on da vinci duo 2.0 success!

highly suggest this software for da vinci users! crazy adjustability and great

prints. So for Christmas I ended up getting Simplify3d for my Da Vinci Duo 2.0 and at first it was not doing exactly what I wanted and my prints were looking pretty shitty! but after a few tweaks on the extrusion multiplier and printing speeds I now have good prints and are faster then when I was printing with only xyzware and I get full simulation before hand I can review. I still am using the wctek.com xyzerocart and at the moment I have been printing in Transparent PLA with bare glass no glue and heated to 50c since I have been printing with PLA the last few weeks. and I will post pics up shortly to show the little rc car parts I have been printing for my team c tm2 v2 2wd buggy.

Here is a pic of a topdeck i printed. I sanded the top of the letters so i could color them in.

Very nice !
Are you using an extra fan with the PLA ?

no not yet I just pop out the carry handle covers for some extra air flow but will be using a fan eventually as simplify3d allows you to tune the fan settings

i also forgot to mention I am running firmware 2.0j and with simplify3d I have full machine jogging control through the software so I can move the machine axis using my laptop instead of the lcd screen on the front of the printer

Ah, I was assuming you were on Repetier firmware.
Impressive results with the stock firmware !

Interesting that you're able to use jogging with 2.0J - I was under the impression that this wasn't supported. What profile did you use for the print?

Re: new simplify3d v2.2 on da vinci duo 2.0 success!

here are my process settings.

extruder:
nozzle dia: .40mm
extrusion multiplier: .95
extrusion width: .40mm

ooze control:
retract distance: 3.0mm
extra restart distance: .1mm
retract vertical lift: .2mm
retract speed: 5000mm/min
coast at end: disabled
wipe nozzle: disabled

layer settings,

layer height: .2mm
top solid layers: 4
bottom solid layers: 4
outer shells: 2
outline direction: inside-out
print islands sequentially without optimization: enabled

first layer height: 100%
first layer width: 100%
first layer speed: 50%

start points: optimize start points for faster printing speed is checked

additions tab,

skirt settings,
skirt layers: 2
skirt offset: 1.00mm
skirt outlines: 3 ( these settings got my nozzle primed really good with pla )

no -rafts

infill tab.
pattern: rectilinear
infill percentage: 100%
outline overlap: 15%
infill extrusion width: 100%
minimum infill length: 5.00mm
print sparse infill every: 1 layer

include solid diaphragm every 2 layers
use random infill placement for each layer: enabled
standard infill angles were used

temps:( I am printing with pla )
extruder: 190c
bed:50c

other tab,

printing speed: 1200.mm/min
outline underspeed:75%
solid infill underspeed: 95%
support structure underspeed: 40%
x/y rapid speeds :3600mm/min
z rapid speed: 2400mm/min

filament,

1.75mm dia

bridging settings default

hope these settings help for others using the da vinci printing pla . but I think these settings will also work for abs as long as you change the extruder temps to 230c and the heated bed to 100c and use purple Elmer's glue stick heavily.

Re: new simplify3d v2.2 on da vinci duo 2.0 success!

Thanks very much for sharing this. I haven't ventured beyond the XYZ Cartridges yet - still been trying to get consistently decent prints from ABS with the Repetier firmware. I've gotten to a point where I can print a very simple test consistently with a quality I like and am moving on to something more complex.

Seeing your settings helps immeasurably: it looks like I arrived at more or less the same place as you with the settings (outside of temps) so I feel like I'm not throwing darts against a board anymore. Going to try some Glow in the Dark ABS with HIPS supports this week.

Re: new simplify3d v2.2 on da vinci duo 2.0 success!

Jeff - just wanted to thank you for sharing your settings. Between the tests I did last night and merging in some of your settings, I'm now back to reliably getting clean prints with the XYZ cartridges, both red and white I have in there now. I'm now confident I'll be able to get decent prints with 3rd-party filaments.

Re: new simplify3d v2.2 on da vinci duo 2.0 success!

Just an FYI I went back to printing ABS today and the temps were being overridden by my xyzerocart so I decided to remove it completely and turns out you can run 3rd party filament without the need to reset the cartridges. big plus!!!

Re: new simplify3d v2.2 on da vinci duo 2.0 success!

Actually, you can use 3rd party filament without resetting.
Just flash stock firmware 1.1.E and use the xyzware modded version. This disables the filament counter altogether. I currently use this method and no longer bother with a resetter.

Re: new simplify3d v2.2 on da vinci duo 2.0 success!

I know this is an ancient post. But, its the only one I see on topic. I'm just curious if anyone has gotten good working profiles for the newer (v4) Simplify3D software. I'm particularly interested in a da vinci duo setup that uses PLA for the model and the water soluble for rafts and supports. I'm having a real time getting them to work together in the stock XYZware software. I can get one extruder or the other to work. But, together they make a mess.

I've only just gotten Simplify3D. If anyone export out and zip their process file and post it, that'd be great.
