Re: Z bar replacement

Ummm just came home from 3 different parts stores, they all think I'm crazy telling them that there is an m5-0.5 fine thread...lol Along with that I cannot find any 3mm bolts anyplace.

Re: Z bar replacement

well the thingaverse file linked in the topic states .15mm so maybe there is a different better version but seems very difficult that you could 3D print a mount for the bearings with high accuracy on angles of shafts and print bed mount to achieve closer tolerances than the fine threads on a 5mm or 3mm screw while clinging tightly to a smooth shaft and make precise steps per mm reproducibly. thats just my view of it. as I aim to only do mods that can vastly improve print detail quality. hence why I am always checking out powder and liquid resin type 3D printers for nano details with no support material to remove. at a low price.

so far my old SD2 is getting things done just looking to do it better, faster etc.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: Z bar replacement

That's it n2ri.  I challenge you to a print off!  Just kidding.  smile

I think that .15 number is the suggested minimum for printing the part, not the minimum layer height you can print at after.  My threadless ballscrew has a 5mm pitch working out to 640 steps/mm.  Works just fine for .1 mm prints.  I have a number of issues to deal with regarding my printer but I'm confident that layer height is not one of them anymore.

However, blarz has already stated that this looks like too much mod for him right now so let's get back to trying to help him out.

I've been ordering small lots metric screws from Chinese suppliers on ebay.  If you're not in a hurry they come right to your mailbox.  I'm not sure how economical it is but it's the most convenient way I've found.  McMaster won't sell to me in Canada and though kind folks here have offered to re-ship, that would add to the cost and wait.

Re: Z bar replacement

5mm threaded rod should be in today along with the newly ordered 5mm coupler. Hopefully after today the next upgrade will be the Solidoodle Replacement Carriages by lawsy. Once I have it running properly again after this mod. Wish me luck...lol.

In....On....printing 1000% better....Thanks for all the help with figuring this out....
