Topic: From 1.75mm to 3mm Modification on my SD3

I have a new SD3 and want to explore changing the filament size to 3mm.

I have previously purchased a Hot-end and An extruder assembly (with heaters, etc). It looks like the mount for the hot-end is similar diameter to the one already on the extruder that is on the SD3 I have. And without disassembling the extruder on the printer I cant tell if the one i have will have matching mounting holes.

has anyone else done a similar thing? What I'm needing to know is are there any roadblocks to doing this from someone who has actually done it at some point?

My hot-end is longer than the one on there now (and heftier with much better insulation), but I assume that's not an issue since that's just a matter for correctly telling the software what the zero height will be with the new head on the machine.

You said New sd3? All stock hardware? What hot end did you purchase? I have upgraded my SD3 to the e3d v6 hot end.You will need to print a mount for it.As to the difference between  a 1.75 and 3 mm the mounts are the same.

SD3, E3D hotend, linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

Gonna be a real pain, as you cannot direct drive 3mm filament. You need a geared stepper, or printed gears.
