Topic: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

Hi all,

here's a new one for you ,hopefully... (I have certainly been baffled as of late) .

So I have myself one of the latest editions of the davinci 1.0 printer. It was a replacement for my earlier model (old circuit board type , fw 1.2.3 etc) when the system board died.

Anyway, this new printer has a completley different circuit board to any of the previous ones or the ones described on here , It is entirely surface mount. There is no J jumper for manually flashing the firmware etc, and it has been completely locked down by XYZ.

So , to explain a bit more.. the printer came with firmware version 1.0.1 (what the heck is this!??) well.. it appears this is the NEXT release after 1.2.3 , or it is the same release renamed for different global region...(shakes head)... this is a firmware written by the XYZ crowd to work with the new (anti hack) circuit board and design. Just like 1.2.3 this does not allow ANY upgrading or downgrading with manual files, and as I said there is no manual flashing (as there is no jumpers) its a JTAG port required, which is not on the board.. surprise surprise.

Anyhow, the problem with firmware 1.0.1 is that is does not heat the extruder enough when selecting the 'Unload filament' option. It heats to exactly 135degrees each time and then attempts to unload.. and subseqently jams etc.
XYZ offer no automatic upgrade from their online service , so I'm stuck with these issues...
So its back at the distributors service centre, and they have managed to get it upgraded to 1.0.2 only (which is meant to be even newer).. ??

Anyone ever heard of version 1.0.2? i'm stumped... can I not get my old reliable system back??

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

The location for the jumper is still there. All you have to do is use tweezers to short the two pads together while you turn on the machine. it will then erase the current firmware and put the device into bootloader mode. At that point just follow the the procedure as you normally would for putting in older firmware or even Repetier host. You can do it all over USB and have no need for the JTAG port.

Can you take a picture of the extruder head? Curious if they are shipping with the same extruder I got from the factory today as spare parts.

Thanks!

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

I have recently picked up a new davinci 1.0 after my old one croaked.  It was posted earlier they have updated both the board and the firmware 1.0.1 .  I'm posting up the photos of the new board because I cannot seem to find the jumpers to flash and downgrade it to a J firmware.  I have also seen somebody volvito attempting to make a down grader program.  sorry about the slightly shaky photos, still getting used to macro shooting.  also here are the photos of the extruder head that you were asking for.

The little square on the silkscreen just below the sd card is where the jumper would have been populated at. Just use tweezers are something similar and short hose two pads together that are inside the little white rectangle just below the micro sd card.

That board is the board for the newer model with the scanner in it as evident by the two unpopulated headers marked laser 1 and laser 2.

looks they use the same board for all models now, they just don't populated all the parts for the lower models. Just like the older units have the capacity for duel extrusion, the components just need to be added to the board.

So just erase using the jumper then flash it again. You did something wrong, or your source bin file is bad. Get a different version from the Github.

As long as it is a 1.0, 2.0, or Aoi the board is still the same as the old board. They just don't populate what is needed for the lower models. All three Da Vinci printers use the same board and CPU. All versions of the firmware should still work on the new board. If you short the jumper again it will erase the processor even if the flash is messed up. The processor has a protected boot loader that it is near impossible to mess up with what we are doing. Note this section of the Forum is for the 1.0 so if yours is a 2.0 or Aoi then you won't find much help here.

So just erase it and start over with a different version using Bossac. The jumper location is just below micro SD card. It is not populated but the silkscreen still shows a small white box surrounding two solder pads. Turn the machine off short those two pads with tweezers, then while shorted turn the machine on for a few seconds then back off. The Processor will now be erased and in it's boot strap mode. Just do a search about unbricking  or flashing firmware and you will find the information you need to restore it using Bossac and a command line.

Here are some instructions that should help from other post.

Install arduino IDE1.5. bla bla
Use the latest version that is beta and specifies drivers for the due
go to the arduino folder in windows explorer in the program files directory probably and search bossac copy this file to c: to make this easier.
put your davinici firmware in c:
open command prompt
bossac -p com19 -R -e -w -v -b 3DP01_20140310_FW_V1.1.G_RELEASE.bin

run that command line after erasing the flash on the printer using the 2 jumper pins.
replace the com19 with your com port and the 3DP01_20140310_FW_V1.1.G_RELEASE.bin with the name of the firmware you want to use.

The easiest way to erase the flash is to use the Arduino serial monitor. Find out what COM port the printer wakes up on, set this in the Arduino IDE, then change the baud rate to 1200, then disconnect by closing the serial monitor. Voila!
This way you don't need to open up your printer.

-light does not work
-the temperatures are displayed incorrectly
-printig bed dont heating
-the Printen dont save the serial number 3F.....

What i can do that the Printer work ?

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

I have a new 1.0 davinci with 1.0.1 firmware also I hope you can get this going again! also check the forums over at voltivo they seem to be alot more firmware oriented.

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

I can confirm that the new DaVinci 1.0 (with FW 1.0.1 at least) does not work with the open source firmwares. And more importantly, the stock firmware can not be loaded back on it (or maybe it can, if someone actually had a copy of it).

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

can we get the 1.0.2 from someone who upgrades their firmware? it has to save the firmware file to the pc first to update right? I am on 1.0.1 and would be willing to try and get the firmware file if someone can direct me.

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

I had my Da Vinci 1.0 replaced and it now has the newer board with the laser1..2 printed the board and has firmware 1.0.1 installed.  Has anyone successfully downgraded the firmware to 1.1.J based on Carl_m1968 comments earlier in the post?

I have not seen a success story posted yet.

So is the J37 the old J1?

Thanks

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

If somebody could supply some clear pictures of the mainboard where the silkscreen can actually be read we could compare the outputs and inputs and see if there was a major change. I doubt it but they may have swapped some IO lines. Which would mean the firmware would not work. Some body just needs to install Atmel studio on their PC. They then should be able to dump the hex file from one of these newer boards through ISB and then upload it to a file share or cloud for others to recover with.

I would say yes. I would really like to see the entire board from end to end so we can compare the outputs and their locations to older boards.

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

carl_m1968, that would require the firmware to be unlocked, which I believe is not the case. In any case, as documented by a few of us over at voltivo dot com none of the official XYZ firmware releases works on this particular version. Once you have erased it, there is currently no way to get a working FW on board the new edition.

Currently the best bet is luc's FW on github where current the stepper motor control and LCD at least works (yesterday I tried it using the patches posted on the voltivo dot com forum).

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

After printing a few objects from .stl files it looks like the current combination of new machine, firmware (1.0.1) and software (1.1.33.1) it seems to be printing at a much higher quality than the older da vinci I had replaced.  I am blocking auto-updates until the community leans more about these newer machines and this new firmware.

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

Hello you all,

I've just recieved my da vinci 1.0, and it's great!
I was hoping to be able to flash the firmware, but my firmware version is 1.0.1......... so (they told me): don't do it!
From the experience from other users, there seems to be no solution.
But it's 2015 now, so I hope, someone out there did solve this problem and would like to share it.

Hope to here from you

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

I have the latest 1.0 printer as well with the j37 jumper and 1.0A firmware, or that's what it had before I flashed this.

github.com/luc-github/Repetier-Firmware-0.92/tree/Testing

They are still working through some minor issues with the LCD, but it's not a show stopper for me, and I think they've about resolved it anway.

I use the above firmware with OctoPrint ( on a pi ) or with Repetier host. So fare I've tried Slic3r and KISSlicer with good results.

Be warned that it took me ( a noob at 3d printing ) an entire day to get things working, but it does work now, and much better than stock.

I found this very helpful for getting Repetier/Slic3r working. youtube.com/watch?v=fWRhNyCFA6I

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

I've decided to try and flash the 1.0.1 firmware on my new da vinci (J37 version) with repetier .92.
But in the installation-directions from step 5 I lose track, I just don't know what they mean :

Can somebody please explain what to do? Are there  more detailed instructions for "beginners"?

Re: New Davinci 1.0 printer ?? 1.0.2 firmware....

If you are referring to the instructions on the GIT hub page. Then step 5 is simply stating that you need to open the Arduino IDE and open the repetier.ino file.

If you have not downloaded the Arduino IDE, you should get it to proceed past step 5.

Get the IDE here: arduino.cc

I have not yet tried to flash my Da Vinci 1.0 yet, but will attempt it tonight after work. Keep us updated on the progress.

Hope that helps.
