Topic: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Hi there comunity, not sure if this is the right place to post this

I have finished assembling my filastruder but wasnt able to make it work still

When I turn it on with the auto tune on, I put the temperature on 190º for example, it starts to go up, then keep heating, I have just turned it on and its allready on 230º

Is this normal?

And when I turn the motor on, the temperature starts to come down, but never to the 190º

The temperature never stabilizes, and never is the same on PV and SV

Also, what temperature you use for pla and what you use for ABS?

Thank you so much for your help

Love the filastruder xD

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Sounds like it is not wired correctly. How about a photo of the back of the controller?

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

You got it

Also attatched a photo of the filastruder after running for 1 hour, it stabilizes at this temperatures

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

That is far too cool for ABS. I hope you're not extruding ABS!

About to get on a plane, will respond more soon.

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

No, Im extruding PLA

And thank you for your help btw, if you need more photos or something let me know

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Back at a computer now.

Are you using the included cooling fan? What are the ambient temperatures? How is the thermocouple mounted?

When it is several degrees above the setpoint, is the OUT LED lit up?

This is odd, but we'll figure it out!

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Hi again

Yes, the OUT led is lit up

Its working like this, I put the value 190º it goes up to 230º for example, and to not let it go any further I turn ON the motor, after the motor is running the temperature starts to come down, then stablizes at around 165º like you saw in the photo

The OUT led is allways on, never seen it off

Hope this helps

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Hmm. I wonder if it is set to cooling instead of heating. Can you confirm the settings in the controller match the factory settings by scrolling through them and comparing to the manual?

Also, answers to these questions:

Are you using the included cooling fan? What are the ambient temperatures? How is the thermistor mounted?

Would help.

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Sorry, forgot to answer those, temperature is around 18º I think, yes, its the cooling fan that came with the kit (should the blowing be directing at the filament, (sticker side up), or down(sticker side down)??) although allready tried both ways and same thing happens, but before I turned it blowing to the filament, the temperature just kept going up, when I pput the fan blowing at fillament, the temperature goes down...

Not sure what you mean about the thermistor, its mounted like it said in the instructions, I can take a pic if you want

the settings are the default values, Ive checked just now

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Very strange - I haven't run into anything like this before. Lets try swapping out the controller and thermocouple - use the contact form on the Filastruder site and we'll get an exchange set up.

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Im from portugal so the taxes would be insane to send it and receive the other one.
Is there any place in europe I can buy those from, Im sure it would be cheaper then to swap it.

I payed around 130$ in taxes to receive the filastruder kit :\

I hope I can get it working without having to receive another, although Im thinkin in getting the filawinder cause I cant get the right diameter with the filament droping down to the floor

Im going to try something else, I dont know really :s

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

It would be marked as replacement parts/gift with no value, so there shouldn't be taxes. Since you're international, no need to send it back.

Not sure where they're sold in Europe.

Regarding filament diameter - being able to set the temperature accurately will help. Have you predried the PLA?

Can you confirm the temperature using another probe, to see if it matches?

Can you stop the fan from spinning, and report what the temperature does?

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

I just noticed something - you seem to have the controller set to 1900C, not 190.0C!!

Try setting it to 190.0C.

As for the temperature dropping, can you post a photo of the nozzle area?

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

Ok, that was so stupid -.-

I think the problem was exactly that, somehow the "." disapeared and the temperature was set to 1900...
Now the temperature is working fine, will have to try the machine tomorrow to see if I can get any good results this time around, what temperature you sugest to try? for PLA and for ABS

Thank you again for your help big_smile

Re: Problem with the temperature not stopping or stabilizing

No problem, we've all been there!

PLA is generally 160-170C
ABS is generally 180-190C

But there are many types of PLA and many types of ABS, so it takes some experimentation for each grade.

Quite a bit of PLA extrusion here:

Be sure to check out the two guides linked in the last post of that thread. Pre drying and increased cooling are important.
