Topic: Controller stick extension not printing properly

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie. I'm trying to print an Estes Proto X stick extension and it is not printing properly. It probably an adjustment that need to be done somewhere but I do not know where or what to adjust. I attached the picture of my printed stick and a picture of how it is supposed to look like. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you printed other larger things successfully?

If so, then you want to cool that small part during printing.  Use an extruder mounted fan or try printing 2 or 3 of them spaced apart about 2-3 inches to give time for each layer to cool a bit more.

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

Hello. Yes I printed something larger (gimbal lock) which is the attached photo. As you can see, the same thing happened to the long portion of the object being printed. Thanks!

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

Yeah...still think it's an issue with cooling as mentioned above.  I take it the "frizzies" are the remainder of your support material?

Also, try printing something simpler like the attached...just want to see the overall condition.

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

I'm printing the square you sent. Also I tried printing 2 of the extension sticks at the same time and one of them was perfect and the other one looks better than the one I attached previously. Is there a way to adjust the setting wherein it pauses for a bit before it adds the next layer?

Here is the square you sent. It looks ok.

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

I'm sure there is, but I have not done it and do not know where the setting would be offhand...

EDIT:  You're too fast for me smile

Beside the standard issue of the 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock circle glitches (see link below), the part looks OK!  Seriously look into a cooling fan mount if you are going to do more of these types of prints.

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

Actually had to step back for a moment and think about this:

Sitting here in SC, I just whipped that SquareCyl file up on CAD in about a minute or so...within 20 minutes, wherever it is that you live, you had printed it into existence!

Let's not forget just how simply cool this all is! smile

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

I did some adjustments on the belt tension and re-printed the square. It looks like it helped.

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

Just thinking...for the Gimble Lock, if there is any functional torque or tension on that thin section, you may want to consider re-orienting the print so that thin spine prints horizontally for more strength...

Re: Controller stick extension not printing properly

I'll try that later today. But now I'm facing another issue with slicing. I'm using Repetier and Slic3r but everytime I slice and .STL file it does not come out right. Holes are missing or some parts of the object disappears. Not sure what needs to be adjusted.
