Topic: Repetier host issues...........

first question

i downloaded 1.0.6 and it actually connected to my printer, and does so EVERY time which im actually really surprised at.  Issue is when i try to manually move it, when its in the park position it will not move to the left, it tries to move out of the printer, making the horrible grinding noise.  anyone know the issue?

question two

can someone explain to me why repetier .85b is doing this to my models?

Re: Repetier host issues...........

DONT try to manually move stepper motors in park or idel position while connected. you MUST 1st click 'stop motor' button. this disables the brake function on steppers to prevent damaging motors

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: Repetier host issues...........

the newest versions of RH automatically perform netfab repairs to every model loaded and trys to repair with default auto fix settings. (one thing I dont like and why I wont install them). maybe those models have more errors than auto fix can repair.

another thing with the newest versions (I also hate) is you must remove and delete all files and registry of any previous versions b4 installing the newest versions above 1.0 or 95f

in lamens terms its for SD Press users hehe. I dont use anything made for dumbing down functions for non computer capable consumers like the newest windows OS, AOL, 1 button electronics, cars with engine light instead of real instrument gauges...

ever use MS Word and have to deal with 'Clippy'? lol google "kill clippy"

roll how do you know this if you won't actually install them? provide advice instead of bashing the OPs choice of software. Also, please provide evidence of such claims.

OP, there are a couple things likely going on. First, are you using the latest version of slic3r? Considering your IMPORTED model looks fine, I think slic3r is the issue here, not RH. If you are using the latest version of slic3r, check it out in netfaab and see if you have errors in your model. We can go from there. Would you mind posting the STL? I can check it out and Simplify3D as well and see how it slices it.

As far as the movement issues are concerned, did you home the printer before you tried to move it? Also, check your dimensions. If it's trying to travel outside of the printer then your dimensions are wrong.

Re: Repetier host issues...........

because the install instructions say so. ever read em?

and slic3r , skienforge and netfab come with RH since ver 95f

Re: Repetier host issues...........

even if you home, park what ever you must click stop motors b4 manualy moving them. been that way since SD2

Re: Repetier host issues...........

park on mine is the finished dump location. and Jag is partly correct on printer trying to go off print bed. if you start print without pressing home 1st its lost as to where it is. and thinks it started in the home spot

Interesting, I use 95f could you explain in detail where and how to use the built in netfab feature?

Re: Repetier host issues...........

when i said manually move them i mean "manually" through repetier.  clicking the x 1mm button and the like, not actually moving them with my hands.  the weird thing was it worked ok when i first installed it and was really impressed with the latest rh, then this crap happen.  ill run the model through netfab (still not entirely sure im using that program right, just click automatic repair and then apply?)  and let you guys know what i find out.

***5 minutes later****

ok yeah that was definately slic3r with the model, slices A LOT faster now too, thats nice.  still wondering about the rh issue though ......

in 95f it uses netfab to check loaded stl files for errors and offers the basic fix. newer versions have more features of netfab built in but I dont like not being able to use my old versions or settings if new versions are installed so I just use 85b RH and the new Slic3r for it plus separate netfab if needed. for most my printing. some new stl files I run in RH 95f sometimes. I just am not one for using the newest simplest apps etc for everything. I use whats been working fine for me a while once I got used to learning all the tweaks. then I dont have to try and find somebody at manufacturer that "can" actually help with issues when the DO arise. most simple to use new things I have learned can usually be real PITA when needed to do their intended job.

Re: Repetier host issues...........

as for Skienforge always being in RH. whats the use of it? has anyone ever had luck getting it to work? not I and good luck finding tech support from manufacturer. mine just partly slices files then at start of print it just drags extruder across bed to center, does a couple tiny curls at 5 dif levels in mid air then goes home like prints finished. LOL Slic3r works fine though on same printer right out of box.

That's unfortunate that you can't explain in detail how to use those features.  I figured since you have clearly read the instructions you would be able to answer a few of my questions.  Oh well, I can probably figure it out wink

Re: Repetier host issues...........

well ATM I am printing an 8.5hr item using RH 85b so... not gonna chance messing it up over this. also I said in the quoted post I read install instructions for the newer versions. not operating instructions for 95f
