Topic: Full graphic controller blue screening on my RUMBA

Does anyone here know how to begin troubleshooting this?

I had the RUMBA hooked up to my mini kossel and the full graphic smart controller was working fine, so I understand the basics of how to get it working.  Then I decided to put my solidoodle back together since I couldn't get the FSR's working on the kossel.  I'll get back to that later.  Anyway, it initially worked on the solidoodle when I first powered it on.  It was giving me a min temp error because I didn't have the hot end with thermistor installed yet.  I finished my installation of the hot end, then went back to look at it and it was nothing but a blue screen.  The kill button still works but the display does nothing.

Firmware reflash does not work.
U8glib is installed fine, as far as I can tell.  I would like to figure out how to remove this from my firmware and reinstall it to see if that helps.

I'll try to get my RAMPS hooked up enough to see if it still works with that board, then I can go from there.

Anyone?  This post went unanswered over in the reprap forums, but I don't know how often people actually read the electronics section over there.  Thanks.

Try it with the USB cable plugged in to the PC...if that works, then it requires the USB power to run.

That could be a lot of things.

For one, is the potentiometer for the screen maybe damaged? I've had those damaged or turned and it's the contrast control so if it's off that can look like nothing is there.

Well, that can't be it since requiring it to be plugged into the PC would totally invalidate the entire purpose of having the controller, which is to control your printer without a PC and to print from the SD card.

Just seeing this late at night now.  I've got it in a printed case that I can take apart tomorrow to check the trim pot, but I doubt that's it.  It was working fine without the thermistor plugged in, then when I went back to look at it after completing the install, it was nothing but blue.  But I'll double check this tomorrow, thanks.

I know...but it IS an issue. That is what happened with the LCD on my RAMPS and I did not feel like soldering to get power to the LCD; so the easy fix was to get a $5.00 usb wall wort to plug the cord into when not hooked up to the PC...

Disconnect the thermistor and see if it works again...

Re: Full graphic controller blue screening on my RUMBA

Adjusting the trim pot just took it from blue screen to partially white screen, as pictured.  Removing the thermistor did nothing.  I'm stuck since the kill button still works.  It is clearly recognizing it in some way and the screen does not seemed to be burned out, but no luck.  I've got another RAMPS laying around that I will flash a few different firmwares to and see if it works on a different board, but that will be a couple days.  Any other suggestions?

Re: Full graphic controller blue screening on my RUMBA

Try gently flexing the PCBs just a bit toward and away from each other holding them by the edges and see if that changes anything.   When I first got mine running, I found this to be an issue with a poor connection between the two...
