Topic: just a little off....

Hey everyone, I've been messing with my Davinci 1.0 for two weeks now and am trying to figure out this "out of round" hole issue. I've tightened belts, adjusted the Y drive motor belt, shimmed the pulley, adjusted X belt, X pulley (the white one) but am still getting slightly out of round holes and my parts are a little short in the Y direction. When printing a 40 x 40mm square, I get 40.00 to 40.1 in the X, but 39.8 in the Y.

So my Y axis is around 0.2 to 0.3mm smaller than the X. Am I just an extreme perfectionist or can the DA Vinci do better? I am not sure what else to try (hardware wise) to get the print to come out closer.

On a final note, I have until Monday to take it back to the store to exchange for a new one, .3mm seems small for a bad apple but if people are having better luck maybe its worth a shot?

Thanks for the help!

Re: just a little off....

I'm finding the same with my Da Vinci. Circles are also up 0.4mm short in the y axis.
I don't know if it's just the limitations of the printer.
Perhaps switching to Repetier firmware would give better accuracy ?? Maybe someone who has switched could check this.

Re: just a little off....

Ok, I took a closer look at the pulleys at the back and sure enough, there was just a tiny bit of play. I had previously only shimmed the pulleys at the front.
So I shimmed all 3 pulleys at the back and the difference between x and y is now down to about 0.15mm so I'm pretty happy with that.
If you haven't already done so, I would recommend shimming ALL the white pulleys.

Re: just a little off....

I will stop by the hardware store today and see if I can find some 8mm shim washers.  If i am going to take everything apart, i might as well do it right...

But it is helpful to know you are getting within .15mm.  At least I have a target now.  Thanks!

Re: just a little off....

I found I didn't need to take the printer apart. It was tricky but I managed to pop the shims in place just by reaching into the back with the top and front doors open.
I used the template here to cut shims out of some wafer thin plastic .... http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:386496/#files
