Topic: Solidoodle software bundle :-(

Out of curiosity, I downloaded the "official" software bundle from solidoodle.com last night and installed it on a windows virtual machine, then poked around in the settings to see what the defaults were.

The RepetierHost version is something like 0.85.

They've been shipping a 0.4mm nozzle for how long now? The extrusion width is still set to 0.42mm everywhere.

They have 4 new printers, but the only printer names that show up are Solidoodle 2 and Solidoodle 3.

I also tried the wiki in case it pointed to something newer, but it points back to a solidoodle.com web page which no longer exists.

Very sad :-(.

Re: Solidoodle software bundle :-(

SD4 is basically an SD3, the firmware is the same, so no issue there. But yes the extrusion width is wrong. When I asked Joel to forward my inquiry about this to the engineers he simply said "I am unable to forward your request."  I have also not been able to get RH to print in the middle of the board.  S3D either. There's a thread about this already, but I still can't get the dimensions right.

The slic3r profile also sets up support extrusion at 0.31mm. I'm no expert, but that can't work. No way.

The stock RH also does not set up i18n properly. Half the software says things like L_CARTESIAN_PRINTER which are i18n constants. Shameful.

Solidoodle has serious problems with communication, both within the company and with customers. They will ultimately fail if they don't fix this. A video of the press shows the CEO stating how solidoodle has always been about "ease of use and customer satisfaction." Not sure which alternate universe that is happening in. I hate to name call but SD has been ignoring my support requests for days so I'm ruffled.

If technical consumers like me have trouble, good luck marketing the press to people who just want to plug in and go, which seems to be the target audience.  People who bought an SD4 seem to just be SOL with getting anywhere with SD. that's why I gave up and will just be slowly converting my printer away from all stock hardware.

Poor communication, bad software and lackluster documentation have caused me to not only run in circles for weeks, but have also led to me damaging a hotend (how was I supposed to know the extrusion temp for the 4 was 215C when literally everywhere folks say "don't go above 210C" in relation to the SD3?)

Half of the SD website goes to 404s. Do they think this is a game?

Re: Solidoodle software bundle :-(

The .42 number is to do with thermal expansion of I remember correctly. So there is reason for it.

This is a crowd funding thing that I'm running: http://www.gofundme.com/bvi140 It's for pretty selfish reasons tongue

Correct!  But that was based on the 0.35mm nozzle from ages ago...the new extrusion width value for the 0.4 nozzle should be 0.48...

SD2 - Stock - Enclosure - Heated Bed - Glass Plate - Auto Fire Extinguisher
Ord Bot Hadron - RAMPS 1.4 - Bulldog XL - E3D v6 - 10" x 10" PCB Heated Build w/SSR - Glass Plate

I know what you mean about communications. It's been 2 days now and no reply to my simple email question.

SD3, E3D hotend, linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

So it's not just me. Wonder what's going on over there...

Re: Solidoodle software bundle :-(

if they can stall complaint 60 days then its "out of Solidoodle hands on free replacement, parts, support" and out dated machine. thats what ends up being the response. also may get a tech on phone wanting to do a online computer share to try and see if they can get software issues fixed but didnt work for me. I had to pick brains here for more ideas plus my own trial/error to fix past issues. so SD is still basically an assembled DIY kit 3D printer and priced accordingly. they had an RH ver 95f for their machines I downloaded b4 the new ver starting with 1 where released but those require complete uninstall of prev versions which Im not ready to do. call me old fashion but have seen way too many new improved versions of software become nightmares fast, so I stay with what works or at least til all bugs fixed in updates.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs
