Topic: SD4 top layer infill issues

so i have got my new E3DV6 installed and extruding correctly. my hollow cube wall thicknesses are .42 exactly.

but i am having a couple issues.

1. my top layers are not filling 100% the tops do not meet up with the perimeters at all times. ( see picture)

2. my 10mm x 10mm test cubes are 10mm on 2 sides and 9.5mm on the other 2 sides. what is causing this?

my extruderis correctly calibrated and i have tensioned my belts evenly.

thanks

Re: SD4 top layer infill issues

Lets start with your perfect calibration.  You have a .40 nozzle and need to be shooting for .48 not .42 so dial that in first.
Should just be a simple extrusion multiplier change.  Then, what axis measures at the 9.5 on your cube?

really? .48?

i thought for some reason it was .42, but i can make the change very easily this afternoon, and then i will reprint the 10x10 cube and report back the results.

thank you very much!

Re: SD4 top layer infill issues

Really, I am working on updating the WIKI right now.
Don't forget to change your extrusion width's in your slice profile.

Re: SD4 top layer infill issues

yes thats started with intro to SD3 and the newer SD2 .4 orifice. mine still has the smaller orifice .35 that .42 was for

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

I reclaibrated to .48 on my open cube walls, infill seems much better, but my 10x 10 cube is still only 9.55mm on the x axis. Y is 10 exactly.

how can i adjust the x axis?

What infill?  Your open cube should have Zero infill and 1 perimeter, and the wall thickness goal is .48...is this how you printed it?

sorry, infill is now fine, but my 10x10 cube is only 9.55mm on the x axis and 10mm on the y. it should be 10 on each.

Re: SD4 top layer infill issues

.5mm left to right, probably tighten the x belt or check that your nozzle is secure.
Past that you're adjusting VREF for that stepper.

Re: SD4 top layer infill issues

There is also just adjusting the steps per mm on the Y axis. Might want to check that before fiddling with belts or vref. I know when I first got my solidoodle, the default values were considerably off for both X and Y.

Re: SD4 top layer infill issues

It's very odd that the steps per mm would be off on X or Y, but if you check in RH under EEPROM Settings, it should give you the current values and allow you to adjust them.  Not at my machine, but I think the default for both X and Y is 88 unless they have changed to GT2 pulleys...

If they both are reading the same, I would investigate vref and belt tightening as wardjr stated above...
