Topic: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

I've brought my SD3 into my office and set up RH on a laptop that has not had it installed before.

I had to readjust some printer settings because the defaults looked like they were set for the SD2 6x6x6 printer size.

I've set the printer size to reflect the actual size of the SD3 (200 x 205 x 200 mm) in RH print settings.

After homing, I can manually traverse to the opposite corner. But when I try to send a command to go to a specific location (i.e. G1 X0 Y0 F3000), the SD moves to a point which is a few inches inset (as if it has a 6" bed).

Also, when I home the X and Y axes, manually traverse away, it seems to report correct X and Y locations, until I go back to the end stops, at which point it re-sets my X and Y locations to about 159 and 149 (again, as though it's set to think that the locations are for a 6" printer). I've gone through all the settings in RH and can't find anything else that let's me adjust the way that the SD treats the end stops.

Can anyone offer me guidance or advice on how to set the printer to utilize the full 8" print bed?

Thanks in advance

Open RH and click on "Printer Settings" in the top right hand corner. You will see a tab that will say "Printer Shape", click on that and check to make sure it reflects the dimensions for the SD3.
Hit Apply then OK and run a test.

If it still is registering as SD2 size, the problem may be in the firmware.

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

there are printer profiles for dif printers in printer settings config in RH besides just bed size. also the SD2-3 have one with and one without dump area on right. most use dump. then check bed size etc also and save. and be sure to select that profile when connecting. look in all tabs in RH printer config

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Was the printer working correctly when you had it plugged into your other computer?

SD2 - Stock - Enclosure - Heated Bed - Glass Plate - Auto Fire Extinguisher

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

As far as I remember it was working correctly, but the printer sat idle for a few months over the summer.

I set the Printer Shape under Printer Settings as per my description in the original post.

When I move away from home, it reports the position correctly, but if I go back to the end stop, I get a response from the SD:

echo: endstops hit:  X:159.02

where it should be 200. After this happens, I cannot traverse to the ends of the bed.

Is there a way I can check what the firmware thinks my bed size is?

Thanks

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

in RH config tab at top is a drop down menu, is SD3 showing?
also where did you input the printer size? it must be done where Azerate said. not just in printer tab for it to save

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

Yes. It says "Solidoodle 3 Base/Pro"
The printer dimensions were entered in Printer Settings (gear button at top right of RH screen) and under the Printer Shape tab.
Printer type is L_CARTESIAN_PRINTER

X,Y,Z max dims are 205,200,200 repsectively. Print area settings are the same.

If you try and run (manually) past your outer dimensions does the motor stop or continue to grind as it hits the other side?

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

If I home the X and Y, it correctly reports the position. I can move it right to the end of the bed and it stops on its own in the correct location. I can't move it beyond that because the SD is correctly assuming that I have reached end of travel.

However, if I home X and Y, move away (even 0.1mm away), then manually go back to the end stop, I get the echo:endstops hit:  X:158.9 (Approximately) message and the reported position changes instantly from 199.9 to 158.9 .
At that point I'm unable to traverse beyond 160mm from the end stop.

(I should note that I get the same behaviour in Y)

I think SD3 same as SD2 needs the setting that has 'Dump' at end to allow for the park/home at right side of base. also my SD2 has 9mm added for dump not just 5mm

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

The more I look at this, the more I'm inclined to think it's a firmware issue.

This thread: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/1390/sol … -firmware/ seems to validate this assumption. It seems to me that the SD3 has a configuration.h file set for an SD2, given that it is interpreting the end-stop locations incorrectly.

Can anyone advise me if there are M commands that let me rewrite these variables, or do I need to reflash a modified configuration.h file using the Arduino IDE?

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

Is there any reason you can think of that the firmware would have been altered?

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

Well that's the weird part. I'm certain it's worked in the past because I have some large prints that would have had to have been printed beyond my current limits. It's been a while since I've used this SD because my company has some of its own 3D printers. I brought the SD so that a) it doesn't just sit idle at home any more and b) I don't have to wait for other people's prints to finish to do my prototyping work.

The laptop that used to be connected to it at home is now dead so I can't check the RH settings on that sad

Normally I'd do more self investigation but I'm in and out of meetings all day.. this is one of the many items I'm troubleshooting simultaneously (actually it's the least of my problems today smile )

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

Well then,  you should get back to work.  I think I would focus my energy on a quick reinstall of your software before anything else.

Re: Solidoodle 3 thinks its a SD2?

Yep.. fortunately I can consider getting the printer back online "work" for the time being.. since the parts I'm printing are actually for work... I just have to get in line for one of the company makerbots for now sad

Thanks all for the advice. I'll report back here if I make positive progress.

In the meantime, if anyone knows a way to set the end-stop positions via G Code commands, that would be immensely helpful. Have a great weekend all smile
