Topic: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

I unplugged all connections from the board about two weeks ago. Now after wiring everything back up to run some tests, manual control goes in the proper directions. But once I hit home (one axis at a time), it attempts to keep going even though it has already hit the endstop. I have not tried it with Z, but X and Y are not working.....almost like the endstops just died.

Any thoughts?

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

try manually  engaging the  the switches if you are honing the x tap the x tap the y and z you may have wires swapped if noting works test the switches with a meter and check the connectors.

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

Try typing M119 into the command line to check the status of the endstop switches.  Assuming the printhead is not homed, It should report something like:
X max: open
Y max: open
Z min: open

Then manually activate either the X or Y switch and send the M119 command again.  For the respective switch, it should report "triggered"

The plugs on the board are 3-wire, correct(I'm not at my SD2)?  Could you have reversed the board connectors?

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

After getting a totally awesome night of sleep on it, I checked the plugs again. X was in Y and Y in X.
So IronMan was correct.

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

One more question for the panel:
Ran a test print a few times and there is now a Z offset when beginning the print...was never there before.

G21; set mm units
G28 ;home all axis
M190 S97 ; set and wait for bed temp to be reached
M104 S245 ; set extruder temp and start heating
G90; set absolute coordinates
G1 Z5 F300 ;move platform down 5mm
G1 X10 Y10 F3000 ;move to front left corner
M109 S245; wait for extruder temp to be reached
G1 Z0.45 F200 ;move platform close to nozzle
G92 E0; reset extrusion distance
G90 ; use absolute coordinates
G92 E0
M82 ; use absolute distances for extrusion

This is the beginning gcode for the part. I am no genius with the coding, but is my theory correct that to G92 E0 command is the culprit? It is not found in my custom gcode, and it just began showing up.

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

I think the G92 E0 has something to do with setting the extruder to zero...

Have you check in slic3r under the Printer Settings tab?  I think that is where the Z offset setting is.

Yeah. Z offest is at zero. Kinda stumped at the moment.

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

Here's what my g-code header looks like:

G21 ; set units to millimeters
M107
M104 S198 ; set temperature
G21
G91
G28 ; home all axes'
G92 E0
M109 S198 ; wait for temperature to be reached
G90 ; use absolute coordinates
G92 E0
M82 ; use absolute distances for extrusion

I don't know why yours would have the platform move down 5mm with the G1 Z5 command; then it moves back to G1 Z.45, which is almost a half millimeter away from the platform...you could try editing those out before running the print, but I would hate to crash your nozzle for some reason!

Some others who are more expert please weigh in here!

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

Sorry I haven't gotten back on this thread...had some good friends in from out of town.
After reviewing some of the gcode I really cannot find any reason for this, and it is appearing on all prints.
My current theory is the Z endstop plug being flipped, but it wouldn't matter which wire goes to which pin, right? Since the pins just send on/off messages? Could be wrong on this though.

Used M119 and got this

I don't know gcode, but I can tell Z is reporting different...ly...ish... yeah.

Everything seems fine until I slice, it seems. The object will be at Z0 until after it has been sliced, then a raft auto creates itself. Once the raft is done printing, the first layer drags like an uncalibrated printer.

EDIT: I should add that I updated RH before rewiring the Sanguino board. After trying to reinstall RH 0.95F, RH crashes religiously, so the modern 1.0.4 (?) is all I can get to open.

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

After fiddling with Slic3r, I found that the raft was set to 1. Once Set to zero, my current print is running as usual.
The odd thing was that once the raft was set to 1, the base layer was higher than expected....almost like it skipped a layer.
This is something I will have to address in the future for more prominent designs, but "if it ain't broke"....

Thanks again for your time IronMan.

Is this immediately after Homing All?  If so, the Z should read "Triggered" as well...

Re: Manual Control vs Axis Homing

Hit Home All and got all three reporting triggered.
Still having issues though. Kinda stumped right now.
