I haven't tried it yet since I'm still using the last modded version you released, but thanks much for your work in making the DaVinci what XYZ should have!
I just downloaded it. I'll give it a shot later. I see a reset cartridge button, but it wanted the plugin before I replaced the xml file. With the XML file replaced I get an error message. What am I doing wrong?
Nevermind. Some of the text didn't copy correctly. That issue is sorted out now.
Still missing the plugin though. Is that a separate download, or still in testing?
Also, it still says there's a new version to download. Is it ok to allow that, or best to say no each time?
@Weekend Avenger - not a problem. I just wished it had the options out of the box like everyone else ![]()
The reset cartridge plugin is not included at the moment due to a bug.
Ok I thought that might be the case since you said beta. Would certainly be easier than using the arduino!
Hi guys, i cant seem to get this mod to open, when i do, it closes do to the fact is isnt wring properly... any ideas? Would anyone with the working file be willing to email me an unzipped exe?
Thanks
Alex
Make sure you are replacing the executable in the XYZware folder. It is not a standalone app. It will require the original xyzware software.
I got it to connect by setting baud rate on Com port to 9600
Can't get the mod to connect to printer?
Get "L_Disconnect" only
Am I missing some setting to serial port to get connect?
Tnx
Is there a DaVinci 1.0 default set of Slic3r config files
for use in the open mod (Slic3r config bundle?).
A set of config that is equal to DaVinci default
to start using Open mod from DaVinci know simple configuration settings
To connect you need to click on the "Connect" button. If you are seeing "L_Disconnect" you may be missing the translations that was posted to the page. Try copying that and pasting into your data/translation/en.xml file.
As for the slic3r settings I will upload my default one when I get back. Do note that my settings are set for BuMat ABS filament. So your settings will vary if you are using a different filament.
Hello again... it is now asking me if I would like to download the new software... 1.31, should I?
thanks
alex
Hi alex,do not update it as it is checking for the official version of the software. It will be removed in the next revision.
Cool mod for the XYZware, I love all the options.
Are there any recommended settings for initial prints using this modded version?
I started a print, it didnt quite sound right so I watched it. Luckily I was there, finger on the power switch, because the nozzle hit the bed and chipped a very small piece off the glass O_O
Its a very small chip and there doesnt appear to be any damage. I updated back to the original for a small print make sure everything is ok.
Can someone post a how to on how to get printing with this?
I got the mod to open and Slic3r working, but cannot figure out how to get a print job sent to the printer.
I click connect to the printer, it says L_IDLE and nothing happens. I cannot manipulate it with manual control or anything.
Do I need to change something on the printer to make it cooperate with this software?
Really very lost on this guys any help would be appreciated, already frustrated with the quality of the prints from the stock software.
Hi,
All this has gone a bit quiet??
I have a new XYZ Da Vinci and would prefer to have a better Open solution to software and slicer.
Has this been tested on the new Da Vinci 1.0a with the new firmware?
Regards,
John
Has this problem been fixed??
Don't want my new printer chipped yet!!

There is nothing to be fixed. It is just a matter of correct initial setup on your part.
Ahh ok. I guess I asked the wrong question...
What needed to be setup to stop this happening.
I think what is missing (apart from my experience with xyz open mod), is a sort of setup guide.
I have a software forum for my Telescope automation software and I release packages that contain:
information on what releases the firmware and software has to be at.
Driver rev levels
Installation instructions.
Configuration guide
Sample observing plans
Users manual.
Yes mine is also freeware..
I think that what I might need is the config guide and what XYZware revs and firmware the XYZ Open Mod is applicable to.
Thanks
John
John, I could be wrong here (someone else please correct me if I am), but I think that XYZ Ware open mod project is somewhat dead (meaning not really supported by the original author), I played around with it for a while and then went back to the stock software, I had issues with it working with the external slicer and other things I cannot remember at this time, but I never felt like it was worth the hassle to me and it is lacking instructions from what I found.
Scotthay,
Oh ok for that. I agree you do need to have some form of instruction and software release control. I only realised this when I started getting a few users for my software. I now have a more formal release system and a youtube channel and forum.
Sounded like a really good idea though. XYZ seems a bit limited and a bit underhanded the way they charge for filament.
I even heard that they try to detect the filament reset and disable the printer!
I will stick with the XYZware for the short term.
All the best
John
I get the same errors being thrown as shown in post 3.
my Telescope automation software
Link? Or PM if prefer.
Just look on my web site - as I can't put links on these posts I will have to shorten it to leave out the preamble ws etc
astro dot me dot uk. Hope you can get that..
First blog post has the links..

Hi,
Just tried installing the XYZware mod software. I don't remember what version. If I find the version number i will post. The first time I started up the software it ran fine. Then I tried starting it again so I could see if the software detected my printer and it crashed my PC. I just recovered from the Proxy hijack virus spyware so maybe that is the problem. But imediately after clicking on the software the screen sort of pixelates and then Blue screen crash. ;just seeing if anyone else is having issues.
P.S. i tried installing the XYZprinting version of XYZware and I keep getting error 87 on launch.
I have a Dell Mini PC WITH THE AMD processor and 4GB Ram.
