Topic: Working out the bugs?

I am trying to print a type of calibration model and I am having my most trouble when it prints the vertical "tower".

While watching it, it seems to be pushing / dragging? into the tower's top layer causing the "fuzzy" portion you can hopefully see in the attachment.

I am completely new to 3d printing and any help is appreciated since I want to learn this and get my students doing it as well.

Thanks,
Tom

Do you really have the Workbench Apprentice?  Post some pics of the machine.

For your print, look at extruder calibration and maybe add a fan on the extruder to cool the print while printing or add another print (small column as tall as your print) while printing this to give the layer a chance to cool down before the next layer.

Re: Working out the bugs?

After checking because you seemed surprised, I don't think I have the apprentice.  It looks like that but I think its a first generation Solidoodle 3d.  Serial number is 08293.  The chipset is on the back and the power supply looks like something from the cold war.

Nope, you got an SD3 (8"x8"). The Workbench Apprentice has dual extruders and far as I know have not shipped any.

+1 on calibrating the extruder. This is a great walkthrough for that.
After that, level the bed and adjust the Z tab screw as needed. This may take a few prints if you aren't using a dial indicator, but should not take an more than an hour altogether.
