Topic: Where to buy New XYZ Chips?

Where can I buy new XYZ chips for my Solidoodle 2 Sang motherboard? I haven't been able get my Y chip to work right in some time and now the Z chip seems just dead (maybe I did it in my many attempts to fix my Y axis issues).

I'm sure you could buy some chips at the grocery store wink

for 4988 or 8825 stepper drivers. Geeetech sells 8825s for about $10

Re: Where to buy New XYZ Chips?

Are the default XYZ chips the 4988?  I assume the 8825 would work too?

Re: Where to buy New XYZ Chips?

Yup. the A4988s are what SD uses which are 1/16 microstepping. DRV8825s are the 1/32.

Re: Where to buy New XYZ Chips?

8825s would work fine, though you don't need 1/32 microstepping for XYZ.  Might as well get one for the extruder though, while you are buying drivers.

Re: Where to buy New XYZ Chips?

Also, don't forget to adjust your steps/mm vlaues if you do get the 8825's.

Since these drivers have twice the resolution of the 4988's, you'll need to, more or less, double the existing values.  For example if your current values are X:88, Y:88, those values will be more like X:176, Y:176

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...

Re: Where to buy New XYZ Chips?

I have a 8825 for my extruder already smile

And to make it simple I got some A4988s just to make it simplier for my Y&Z Chip. Ok got 5 of the chips on ebay as a set but it was only $15 for the 5.

Re: Where to buy New XYZ Chips?

I got my chips in. Now to take the time to install them. Ok that part is easy. Now to take the time to get the right settings on the Y&Z chips. That is the part that will be time consuming.
