Topic: motor wont move during job

Ok, so I finally got my soliddoodle 3 hook up and ran a small test print. But for some reason the motors wont run and extract when I try to print a file I scanned on my 3d scanned. Its in .stl and runs through slicer fine. Anyone out there that could help me please.

Re: motor wont move during job

Are you able to move X, Y, or Z axis with the control arrows on the computer prior to printing?

Re: motor wont move during job

yes all but the z axis it wont move with the manually controls. could it be something in the slicer settings?

Re: motor wont move during job

If you hit "Home All" button, then does the Z-axis hit the endstop and find home?

Also, does your hot end (nozzle) get up to heat as well as the printed heater?

Re: motor wont move during job

yes both of those actions work properly. it will go home and the bed will move and line up. the heat also gets to proper temp. Its something in the gcode because i can download something from thingiverse and itll run. If i try to code and print something ive made on tinkercad or blender or scanned on my next engine, forget it. it just slices it then sits there and doesnt move when i hit run.

Re: motor wont move during job

If you are slicing it the same way as an item from Thingiverse, then it could be your .STL file.  Try downloading Netfabb and running your .STL through that and hit the "Repair" option...

http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php

EDIT:  You could also post the .stl file here and I will give it a run tonite.

Re: motor wont move during job

bad file then. as STL files that are done right are not that big I have found. how many MB is the file? sometimes editing gets carried away in some programs, what program are you making the STL file in? also when slicing does slicer finish slicing b4 you try printing? thats another matter

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

Re: motor wont move during job

3.69 mb and yeah i always let slicer finish first. something in the gcoding im pretty  sure.

Re: motor wont move during job

thats not as big as some I have seen (like 10x that). maybe they now limit to 3mb like yahoo. try putting it in zip file and upload if it lets ya.
sounds like your drawing stl files as flat 2D instead of as solid 3D

Re: motor wont move during job

sounds like your drawing stl files as flat 2D instead of as solid 3D since other stl files slice correctly just not yours

Re: motor wont move during job

any file can be zipped by right clicking on it and sending to zip then its in same folder/page file is as a zip in windows OS

what does model look like in RH when loaded? maybe post a screen shot of that if you can. also compare that to what it looks like as G-code

Re: motor wont move during job

I have a few thousand STL and SKP files but most of them are not print ready needing repairs etc and Im sure most of us here have had same experiences starting out. those 'bad files' look way dif when sliced than when loaded and explains lots of why it wont print.
this is why I love using Slic3r in RH so I can see what printer sees b4 trying to print

working on the screen shot, heres the file. Ive heard KISSlicer is better also. Is that true?

Re: motor wont move during job

stl checks fine in netfab.
1 thing I see in screen shot in G-code 'fill density 0..25" did you put 2 decimal points in that box in Slic3r? likely confused printer

Good catch!

I sliced and am running it right now with no issues...only a 30 min print.  Shields1.as, If you want it in Black, PM me and I'll drop it in an envelope...
