Topic: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

Im using glass and hairspray and am noticing it is rather difficult to get my .1 prints to stick properly, After about 4-5 layers they start to peel off the bed in the corners.

Any ideas why?
When printing at .3 its perfect.

Extruder and flow rate are calibrated.

Should I place kapton on 1 of my glass beds and use that for .1 printing?

What thickness is your first layer set to?

3

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

.3 first layer
.1 rest

infill every 3.

Im using SD's profile, i sped up the original speeds a little bit, maybe i need to really slow the first layer down to make sure it sticks

Hello,
does your bed temperature is high enough ?
I also had peel off problem and it was the temperature which was too low.
I red you add glass bed are your sure that there is no loss ..;

I tried 95°C and my problem was solved.

You might also try adding a brim.

...sativas are for smoking!

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

ive been using brim on some of my .3 prints.
Its a great feature, ive discovered on some of my bigger prints a 5-6mm brim works great.

Ill try a brim on some of my smaller .1 prints and see what happens.

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

glass, with kapton, washed with acetone seems to be working.
Its a 19hr print...hopefully it stays! haha

19hrs???!!!! What are you printing??

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

It's not hard to hit 19 hours with .1mm.  Take whatever time is typical for whatever you like to print and multiply by 3.

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

Got into work this morning and it was still printing like a champion.

19hrs, .1, no infill, 6 perimeters

The kapton worked perfectly, to a point where I had to remove the glass and scrape the part off.

File can be found here
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:36200

I scaled it up to fit the build volume, ended up about 140mm tall.

Edit: Using www.3dprintergear.com.au red crysta line filament.

4.5 hours has been my longest print yet, I still cant even imagine a 19 hr print!

Ive just finished scaling up a yoda to full size, .1 with 25% fill is going to take 27hrs....lets see if i can pull it off.

I hope you post a photo no matter what the outcome is!

That looks amazing. Is that print pretty much straight off the printer, or did you do any acetone vapor finishing?

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

Straight off the printer, I just peeled the brim off. I have a nut hot glued to my z screw to reduce the z wobble but it is still noticeable on the sides if you look closely. Still very happy with the result

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

Its saturday morning here, just popped into to see the printer...has been running over night, already been running for 24 hours, another 3-4 hours to go. Lucky actually, its going to be 38 degrees here today (100 fahrenheit) so the office is going to get pretty warm, should be finished by the time the heat gets here.

Progress looks good, there are dark lines that run through the model, im assuming these are probably whats left of my z wobble, the nut and hot glue seem to work really well. I found kendalls nut cap didnt suit the rotation of my nut once locked into place.

The detail from printing at .1 on the yoda is very cool, nostrils, mouth, eyes...its almost creepy

Plenty of strings around the chin and ear, will get it cleaned up on monday and post a finished photo.

That's definitely pretty sweet.  It's 38 here too in Chicago, but unfortunately it's Fahrenheit .

Can't wait to see it all finished.

I drank beers with a guy from Chicago while on kona earlier in the year. All he did was talk about how cold it gets there.

That looks like it's almost a kg of plastic by itself.  I've never seen Yoda at that size, and certainly nothing that big at .1mm.  Get some good lighting when you take the finished photos and get some good detail closeups.

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

mac,
kendalls 2 part cap should work in any rotation I thought.  I was having issues with the cap lifting a bit though so I switched it out for this z-nut hugger and it works with my nut rotation, but I had to put it on upside down with the tab to the right.

That yoda is huge!!! Please give of some real nice closeups when its done

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

I futzed around a bit with a nut cap, and finally settled for the simplicity (and ugliness) of just hot gluing it in place.

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

Will get some good shots when it's done. Hopefully goes ok, I could see the brim was slightly lifting, fingers crossed it stays put.

Anyone got some other stl's like this I could try at .1? It's hard finding nice clean stl's I can scale up and print like this...they always tend to have holes in geometry or large overhangs. Haven't got around to mastering supports yet.

The spool was noticeably smaller this morning, ha

Re: Part not sticking in corners when printing at .1

How did your Yoda turn out?  I did a big one as well and I don't think it looks nearly as good as yours.

I really (for no particular reason) want to print this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32825 scaled up 2x.  I have trouble with the base, but the rest seems to print well.

I did a 75% scale .1mm of this one with 5 shells, no fill. 9hr, 15mins
