Topic: X axis acting nuts

Afternoon folks....

Working along trying to meet some printing deadlines and
was adjusting my Z stop and leveling my bed as a check after
a print....

Then my x axis starts acting all weird.... almost like it is bound up.
However if I deactivate the motors and slide it with my hand it moves
fine... belts seem to be tensioned correctly... so?????

If I go into jog area and try jogging it on direction... sometimes it
moves to the right direction... other times not... not sure what
is going on....

Wondering if I should shut everything down and do a cold boot....

HELP!

Ok....


Tried 2 things... First removed the drive belt from the x-axis and let the motor run by itself without
the belt interferring.... still acted wonky....

Removed the Y axis plug on back (which seems to be working correct and smoothly)
and switched it for x plug and tried again... motor still acted dumb....


So with this can I assume that I have a frakked x-axis drive motor?

If so... what do recommend for replacement?  Who makes it... how much... and how fast can I get it here???

Before you jump to conclusions have you checked the wiring?  An internal break in the wires is not uncommon.  Other wise check my topics and I address replacement x-axis motors.  I'd post a link but on my phone.

Ward....

After using a multimeter...  I found that I had connection/resistance fine on blue & red (multimeter drop from 1 to 0)
but on the remaining wires... green & black... nothing... from what I read somewhere else, they should act in pairs????? correct????  So if nothing on black & Green... that would indicated a broken internal wire on one of those????

How do I know which?  And how do I fix?  I assume I can not take the motor apart to get at the solder point internally,
do I just clip wire near plug and continue to clip and test until I get connectivity?  Or clip near motor and just rewire to plug?

Never had to rewire a stepper motor before....

I'd just clip up by the motor and hope it isn't any higher.  Than just re-wire either way your just getting by until your new motor arrives.

Ok... I got the X axis motor working again....

Had to clip WAY down next to the motor and rewire...

It seems to be working now... but I am getting a terrible
squeak noise is in back and forth X axis movement....
I am not sure if I have the tension for the belts back right...

Suggestions????

I just dealt with the Y squeak.
Loosen the belts a bit for sure. But when you say back and forth, do you mean left and right for the X, or fornt and back for the Y?
The squeak may be coming from the belt pulley on the right Y carriage.

Aze....

The bound up noise is primarily when the print carriage is going side to side from left to right....
at 45 degree angles... no noise... front to back.... no noise... left to right... small movements... no noise
Left to right... large movements....ugh... makes me cringe!

A little lube on the right pulley and maybe some on the rods should fix that.  Otherwise you have more serious problems with your motor than you thought.
