Re: Print quality problems

other than Pyramid being too steep of angle and the flame from statue of liberty on top? LOL

Id say need to slow print speeds down to give time to cool b4 next layers.
I had same issue on small items to the point an N scale refrigerator looked like an ice-cream cone ;^P

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

do you suggest to cut down print speed ? do you use slic3r? plase post your settings

Re: Print quality problems

It's gonna be hard to get tips/points that small to come out good without a cooling fan. I'm thinking about designing a fan mount for the Da Vinci, but it won't be for a couple of weeks.

Re: Print quality problems

I have the same "Ice cream cone" issue - it is a cooling problem. The smaller print area does not have a opportunity to cool before the next layer gets put down.
I have found that slowing down the print speed or messing with Slic3r's cooling settings make it worse. The ABS needs time /away/ from the print head to cool. Slower printing made it worse.
I disabled Slic3rs cooling logic (with no fan it was pointless anyway.) that helped a bit. It printed comparable to the XYZ Software.

What I wound up doing was just printing 2 of the same objects at once a bit apart on the print bed.
So the print head has to move to the second object, giving the first time to cool, before moving back.

Not the most elegant hack, but easy to implement even in with just the XYZ software.
