Topic: Using SD4 SD card slot

Hello! I am about to buy an SD4, but I was just wondering if anyone has figured out a way to use the SD card slot on the motherboard. For whatever reason, solidoodle has decided not to utilize it in their stock firmware but the motherboard is printrboard based which obviously means it can be reprogrammed. Has anyone done so to use the SD card slot?

Thanks,
H

Re: Using SD4 SD card slot

My guess is that they didn't implement the SD card, but it doesn't have much use without a display and control panel which the SD4 also does not have. I don't see why you couldn't just turn on that setting in configuration.h of the Marlin firmware (along with the display and controls) and get it to work. As far as I know, there is no conflict.

Re: Using SD4 SD card slot

Hi Skateguy 2000   I have a SD3.  I bought a Panelolu 2 board from Think3DPrint3D  (in UK about $40 website t3p3.com). It took a little tweaking but now works great. I get an  LCD screen with all my options and controls, an encoder knob to scroll thru options , indicators for heaters & fan , a push button to make selections oh yeah did I forget it has it's own SD card slot that works great. I don't know what Motherboard is in SD4 But mine is Solidoodle Printrbot Rev E. I hope this helps you.              Bill D.

Re: Using SD4 SD card slot

The latest Repetier Host has fantastic support for SD cards, no need at all for an LCD display. Have no idea if it works with the stock controller, though I'm sure it will. I use an AZTEEG X3 instead. Good luck.

Yup, plug in, set up, hit print-from-sd and take your laptop somewhere nearby and warm for the subsequent 4hrs of hexagon song and ABS fumes to do more cad modelling. smile

Re: Using SD4 SD card slot

I have the SD4 with the Printrboard Rev. E. I did try just plugging in an SD card and using repetier to poke around at it and nothing. So, I think it is safe to assume that it is not enabled in the firmware.

Slimstar, did you need to enable it in the firmware first?

BTW, unless you move the electronics or get a uSD extender (I have one) using an SD card in the SD4 would require removing the enclosure for the electronics every time you wanted to get your card in and out. It is located on the board facing the very bottom of the SD4, you can't even get your fingers in from the side to take it in and out.

For me, at least, setting up octopi, an old laptop, or a tablet as a print server is more desirable.

Yes Retroplayer   It is enabled in firmware all the info in is the wiki from  Panelolu 2 or on T3P3.com. you also must solder header pins into the MB.

But you can save gcode to the card via Repetier Host - there's no need to take the card in and out more than once...

I didn't mean the panelolu. I meant the SD card. But I think your answer is this same. I am certain that mine doesn't work, so perhaps a different revision of the firmware?

BTW, I did already solder all missing headers on the board. Not using them for anything yet, though.

Re: Using SD4 SD card slot

Here's what happens when I choose to upload a file to the SD card from Repetier:
Printer homes itself and bed heater is turned on even though it still says turned off in the dialog. Upload =0% until I reset everything. Log says "No firmware response detected for sd action. Assuming success and continue."

Oh, and the firmware appears locked and will not respond to anything or even disconnect.

So, not working on my printer.
