Topic: Filament is hitting the top of the enclosure Solidoodle 4

Up until last night the parts I have been printing were all relatively small, just a few centimeters in the middle of the bed.

Yesterday I modeled up a bottle holder to hold small round bottles in a stair stepped fashion so the labels on all of the bottles can be read without picking them up. At the base it is about 165mm square.

When printing this I experienced something that had not come up previously. When the extruder moves toward the back of the printer after being at the front the filament is drug across the top of the enclosure. It makes quite a bit of sound and there is obvious friction because because there is filament dust stuck to the top.

I opened the top to keep this from happening, unfortunately that also meant letting the heat out and the edges opf the print curled.

Is there a way to keep the filament from dragging across the top of the enclosure? It seems like that has to be a potential [problem since the filament is being sanded down and there has to be some friction against the extruder feed as well.

Had the same problem on my SD2 with the pro case. I put some kapton tape on the underside of the enclosure top. No more dust or friction.

Or slit a piece of tubing and put it over that edge.  (Think Straw)

I will give the tape a try wire10ga.

The filament isn't hitting in any one particular spot to put a straw wardjr. This isn't friction from where the filament enters the case. There is a rubber gasket there to prevent friction. This is a matter of the filament being drawn around on the underside of the case when the extruder is moving.

I understand what your saying now.
I love having my filament go through the top and not having to worry about that problem.
Old picture but you get the idea.

Okay, time to take the top off of the enclosure. I think I see my next project.
