Topic: Y axis issues

Hey guys got a quick question it appears that my Y axis is having some issues I loosened the belts and found that it is the bearings that are causing to much resistance and I start getting a stair step effect from it missing the steps.  So where can I find replacements for these? Locally would be best but I suppose I could order of the net if need be.  Thanks for the help!

Re: Y axis issues

Are you referring to linear bearings?  Those are most likely going to be readily available in your corner of the world.

Re: Y axis issues

He is talking about the sleeve bearings most likely. And since they are imperial, they probably do not have them in hardware stores in Japan.

But to be sure, a picture of what you are referring to would help.

Re: Y axis issues

He's in Alaska now and he's running a Bulldog XL.  I can't imagine he didn't upgrade to linear bearings but maybe.

Re: Y axis issues

Lol ya I need to update my location sorry, I'm in alaska, I did upgrade my linear bearings, I'm refuring to the ones that hold the rod that controls the Y axis in the back of the machine.  Sorry I'm not sure what there called but those seem to be not as smooth as they should be and causing my axis to shift every few layers.

Re: Y axis issues

Put a little oil on them until your new bearings arrive wink then print up a pillow block.

Re: Y axis issues

Plan on spinning that shaft in a drill and some Emery cloth to get it down to size.

+1. Worked a charm for me. Run up and down the length to try and keep the sanding even down about 1/3 of the rod (far enough so you can install bearings in pillow blocks further down the rod if you like). Keep trying the bearing on every now and then to feel how you're going. smile

Re: Y axis issues

Yup: 6x13x5mm with flange and shields. Look up the standard code F686 or F686ZZ if you'd like to find more listings.
I bought a bunch from eBay at a very reasonable price from HK and they've been working beautifully.
