Topic: Support material being generated....

Hello All,

Since day one, Repetier-Host just will not produce support material for overhangs.  I've tried both Slic3r and Skeinforge with no success.

And yes, I've checked the box to generate support material in the printer settings.

Any ideas?  Thanks

Re: Support material being generated....

Have you adjusted your overhang threshold angle?  Regardless, I was surprised how much of an overhang the printer can handle before it needs supports.  I found that wider extrusion paths help.  Also, I'm sure it was just a slip up but repetier does not generate the supports, that is slic3r.  Make sure you are using the latest version from slic3r.org.  They have really improved it in the last couple months.  If you post the model you are trying to print, we might be able to help more.

Re: Support material being generated....

I'm using Slic3r 1.1.6 for a couple of weeks which is still the current release.  Maybe I should run it outside of Repetier and see if I get something different.  Not sure what Repetier hooks are in the slicer programs.

Re: Support material being generated....

Running 1.1.6 as well with no issues within Repetier.  The threshold setting is based off of vertical=90 degrees.  I usually have mine set to 15 or 20 degrees depending on what I am printing, but I try to print with no support at all unless absolutely necessary!

Re: Support material being generated....

This may be a dumb question but, does the 3D View show the supports when the G-code is generated?  I would assume so but, I'd thought I'd ask.

Yes, I've got the threshold set to 20 degrees.

Thanks for your response.  smile

Yes, the 3D view should show the support material.  Maybe make sure your support material extruder is set to Extruder 1 since this is a single extruder machine?  Also, expand the command line window at the bottom of repetier and make sure you are not getting an error down there.  If there is an error, that is where it will show up.

Re: Support material being generated....

Thanks guys!  I got it working.  I think the problem was under setup.  It was not looking in the correct folder for the new version of Slic3r.

Cheers.
