Topic: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

I just got my Solidoodle 2 Pro, very excited to finally have a 3d printer after a solid year of debating to get one or not.

Get home, unpack everything, follow the instructions to install RH + driver and connect the printer.

Open up RH to test the motor on x&y axis and....nothing.  No movement on either axis.  I've troubleshot for ~ 2 hours and figured out the following:

Connecting over COM3
Can make connection to printer, but no manual controls.  Double checked BAUD rate in both software and windows (115200).
Can initiate command to heat extruder / printbed, which start to heat up, however after ~30 seconds I hear the "disconnect" noise from Windows (7, 64-bit), COM3 disappears, and I have to manually disconnect the printer via the USB cable.  When reconnected, COM3 appears again, however everything is the same - manual controls do nothing.

Can anyone help out with additional initial steps to troubleshoot?  I'm going to email support as well but was hoping for a quicker answer here.

Really hoping they didnt send me a "refurbished" dud sad

Re: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

Not sure it will make much of a difference, but it has been known to cause issues in the past - perhaps try a baud rate of 250,000? http://wiki.solidoodle.com/repetier-hos … on-windows
This may be a process of trial and error to find it, but you're not crazy, something somewhere is not right there...

Re: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

haha thanks, I did get a chuckle out of that smile

I tried changing the baud rate in both Windows and RH properties to 128000 (highest it will go in Windows) and to 9600...with no success.

Not sure if it helps or not, but when I input the manual commands, it doesnt make any noise, and it doesn't say "command waiting" (until I tell it to heat the bed/extruder and windows makes the disconnect sound ~30 seconds later).

Here are my printer settings (running Win 7 as well) if it helps...

Re: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

Two questions:
What happens to the light on the board when it randomly disconnects?
And are you using a USB hub? If so, don't.

This is a crowd funding thing that I'm running: http://www.gofundme.com/bvi140 It's for pretty selfish reasons tongue

Re: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

@Ironman - tried 250,000 w/ no luck
@Serin - the light on the board remains green at all times when it disconnects.  I've also found that it immediately disconnects (disconnect sound happens in Windows, and commands all start to queue) now when I try to use manually start the "heat printbed" function.

I've also swapped out the cable and am not using a USB hub.

Thanks for the suggestions and input! At this point I'm happy to try anything while I wait for support to get back to me

Re: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

I've found through experimenting that USB hubs and 3D printers do not work well.

If you have not yet, I would suggest turning your computer off/restarting. This may get it to recognize the port.
Also, before completely freaking out, if possible, try connecting your printer to another computer. Windows 8 and Apple products are possible to connect to as well as print, but have been well documented on Soliforum to cause issues.

I think it is very odd that it disconnects shortly after connecting. Have you tried a different USB port on the computer? I have had that bizarre issue with some recording equipment.

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Re: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

Oh!
While you're at it, make sure your computer is set up to keep it's USB ports online all the time as opposed to power saving by turning them off.

Please copy the Repetier Host logs from the bottom pane. What kind of feedback are you getting from the printer?

I suspect that you aren't actually connected. Are you getting information about the firmware back from interface? That would be a good sign that everything is ready to go.

Did you get a new or refurbed printer?

For the new boards, baud rate should not matter. Which version of the driver did you install? Are you using the official Solidoodle Repetier host?

Have you tried unplugging the board for a moment and letting it reset before going on?
Have you tried using another USB cable?
Tried another computer?

We will know more with this information.

Re: Solidoodle 2 Pro - Dead on Arrival??

Day 2:

Tested on completely separate computer
Tested with 2 cables
Tested directly on 2 ports on both computers with both cables

Same result.

Reading the logs, it appears to be able to pull firmware version (see below)

This is a refurbished printer, however this is the second day I've owned it.  Purchased 6/24, arrived 7/1.

I am using the official Solidoodle version of RH (V0.85b), however I have also tried newer versions of RH with the same result.

I have tried reseting the printer via unplugging and leaving for a few minutes and plugging back in.  I have tried resetting both computers.  Nothing results in any success.

Here is the log (sorry, I would attach a .txt but I dont see that ability):
