Topic: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

I am trying to set up the gcode controlled hot end fan on my SD3 and it's standard sanguinololu board..

I followed these instructions: http://solidoodletips.wordpress.com/201 … ruder-fan/

I have all the parts fitted and wired and the fan runs, but it won't be controlled by gcode. It just runs constantly.

Had a look through other threads but couldn't find an answer.

Any suggestions?

And you have the proper setting set in your profile?

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

Should I have it exactly as you have it?

I don't have 'Keep fan always on' checked because I don't want the fan on all the time, just when required.

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

You want to enable auto cooling and choose the settings you want below that.

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

Also I was assuming your fan (the OP) was always running because you had it set to that (always on).  If not then you have something else wrong.

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

I do not have it set to 'always on'. This is why I am confused.

When I switch the printer on and the regular fan for the extruder stepper motor comes on, so does the fan for the hot end. When I start the print it does not go off like it is supposed to for the first layer.

Any suggestions?

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

It sounds to me like you need to retrace your steps.  If it is turning on as soon as you power up the printer then most likely you have something wired wrong or shorted out.

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

I have checked everything already.

Also, I checked all the pins using an oscilloscope and there is no PWM output with the fan set to 50% in Repetier Host

Did you make the firmware change in pins.h?

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

yes. Tried changing -1 to 4, and also 28 as described here: http://www.soliforum.com/post/50162/#p50162

Currently the pin is set to 4.

Also, have just checked my board and it is version 1.3a

I know this is a bit of an ask, but could you upload a photo of the area of the board where everything connects with each connection labelled so I can check it against my own please?

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

Someone else is going to have to get you a picture.  I have a Rumba board so a picture of that will do you no good.  I would think there must be several pictures in various posts already.

Re: gcode hot end fan (SD3 + Sanguinololu)

Update:

Have found a schematic/diagram for my sanguinololu board (1.3a) and pin 4 should be the correct one.

As I mentioned earlier though, nothing changes when the manual fan control is modified -  there is no signal or change from the pin at all (checked with a spectrometer).

Fan is definitely enabled in Slic3r.

Has anyone got the hot end filament cooling fan working with a sanguinololu board at all?
