Topic: Question on those who smooth

Ok I have been getting into Acetone smoothing for ABS and M.E.K Substitue smoothing for PLA (still been testing with).

I use that presto cooker that is common. Basically a heated pot with a basket.

The biggest problem I have is that it seems to mess up the bottom of my prints pretty well. What solutions to people have?

Make a bed of nails of some kind so the print is supported on blunted points rather than a flat surface.   You can also try something flat on the bottom like a small piece of glass or kapton.

Re: Question on those who smooth

On parts that allow, I design a small hole into one end that I can then set onto a mount that has a small screw sticking out of it.  Once its attached I set it into the cooker.

I grabbed a small 1/8" sheet of aluminum and cut it to size. Never had a problem.

Re: Question on those who smooth

I was worried about covering up the holes that the vapors rise from if I placed anything much larger then the object. Is this not a problem? Is does not cause it to smooth not as well?

Re: Question on those who smooth

It will still come in the sides and settle,   so the bottom holes aren't critical.
