Topic: Top layer not quite filled (gaps)

Hi,

In my prints the top layers aren't filled properly.
In the photo I took, you can see the top layer (hilbertcurve), the layer behind (which was rectilinear), and even the layer behind (which is filled 20%). I always imagined that the top layers would cover the entire surface without gaps.
Also, It doesn't show well in this particular example photo, but the perimeters generally have gaps between them, just like between the "u" and the "r" in the photo.

I print in ABS, on a solidoodle 2, at 195° (acrylic bed, but it sticks well enough), extruder width is .42 and height is .3; after calibration I changed the "Axis Steps per Unit " and I changed the extrusion multiplier to 0.81).

Any idea ?

How many top layers did you set? I am using Slic3r and I have 3 layers for top and bottom.

I had this problem too and it got drastically better when I slowed down the top layer and used at least 3 solid top layers.  Make sure you have the latest version of slic3r, I know there is a setting in there to slow the top layer but not sure if all versions have it.
