Topic: Only ABS griding against the bed

This is a weird one to me. I can print in PLA just fine and at decent quality too. But when I switch over to ABS (and thus the ABS filament setting in Slic3R) that only with ABS does the hot end grind against the heated bed some (caused me a clog last night I need to clean out), and I can hear it do so.  For the filament setting it seems like it is just mostly adjusting the temperature, speed and flow rates.

In general my machine does better with PLA, I just wish one could acetone smooth PLA like you can with ABS.

Re: Only ABS griding against the bed

Sounds to me like your Z offset settings in Slic3r do not match.
I'm not near my computer, so I can't tell you the exact location for that setting. but if it only does it in your ABS setting, that is where I would start looking smile

Re: Only ABS griding against the bed

I was just looking it could be one of two things.  First layer height under the Print settings tab or possibly a Lift-Z thing under the Printer settings tab Extruder 1 section.  Maybe more info about what is happening exactly would help.

Re: Only ABS griding against the bed

Only when printing with ABS does the print head seem to hit the print bed, well at least sounds like it is scraping the glass. Maybe it was just lack of filliment because for whatever reason last night I tried ABS theee times and it clogged and I had to unclog it fully and try again, I am certian is ABS, and I have used this filiment before but granted it's been a few months.

Re: Only ABS griding against the bed

I think in the end my hotend was clogged. I think the PLA manged to sneak though the opening better then the ABS. I think the ABS wasn't letting enough fililent out. I am working on a E3D replacement, afetr unclogging the stock one drove me nuts
