If you unplug the usb connection to the printer, close and reopen rh, open printer settings, is COM1 still there?

Yes, COM1 is still there
Do you have .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 installed
Do you have .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 installed
i just tried installing it and at the very end it said setup error however i have framework 4.5.1
Ok, this probably means that COM1 is not the right one for the printer, it's probably one on your computer's motherboard.
Perhaps try the following?
* Unplug the printer completely (power and USB)
* Plug in power
* Plug in USB
* Open up device manager (just type 'device manager' into the start menu search box and pick it from the list)
* Look for entries under "Ports COM/LPT" (refer to this image).
* If there's nothing there, look for devices under "Unknown devices" or "Other devices", anything with a yellow exclamation mark.
If it's not there or something that looks like it shows up as "unknown device" when you plug/unplug the usb, then have a crack at these instructions for installing a usb driver: http://wiki.solidoodle.com/installing-drivers
i have framework 4.5.1
I also have 4.5.1 and it's working fine.

this is what im getting
Leaving that window open, if you unplug the solidoodle, does the COM1 port disappear from device manager?
If it stays there, it means it's not the solidoodle. Solidoodle uses a different driver, your COM1 looks like a native serial port to me.

yes it stays there
Ok, it looks like the board is not showing up as a usb device at all on your computer. This could be quite a number of things, and is most often a power or physical connection problem. The following are worth a go to further isolate the problem:
* Plug the printer into a different usb port, particularly one it hasn't been connected to before
* Try with a different computer, if you have one handy
* Use a different USB cable
While experimenting, each time you disconnect the board trying things out, disconnect both the USB and the main power ensure you fully power-cycle the board.
One quick question... I don't think you covered it earlier... does your windows make an alert sound when usb devices are plugged in/out? if so does it do this for the printer?

i connected the printer to my laptop and was still having the same problem

no it does not make the noise when i plug in but my other usb devices do
Sorry I left you hanging last night. Have you tried a different USB cord? It's nice to eliminate all possibilities.

At this point I think process of elimination is all that'left so let's start with the basics.

+1 on elimination. We're getting scarily close to deciding there's something terminally wrong with the new board otherwise. I'm really hoping it's something obscure but minor like the cable. Otherwise it's going to be SD support --> replacement^2 board --> wait.
You can verify the cable works with another device (e.g. a 2d printer, anything) - all we need is the alert noise / appearance in device manager to confirm the cable is fine.

I don't know grob I have a PC that just won't seem to connect to any of my printers. The funny thing is it is exactly the same as my other PC. So I'm going the route of format the hard drive and start from scratch. I would find it very coincidental for two boards to be bad but you never know.
So zipperboy do you have access to another PC you could try?

i connected the printer to my laptop and was still having the same problem
Looks like another computer has already been tried, and it's doing the same thing. Other than finding another solidoodle owner nearby and trying their known working computer / trying your computer or laptop on their machine, or as you suggest making a clean-slate machine, i'm not sure we can guarantee we've completely eliminated the computer side.
You're right, board being DOA is actually quite unlikely, but I'm not sure it's impossible.
Hmm. I'm stuck now, not sure where to go next.
That makes two of us... Other than a reload of windows maybe and fresh updates I'm all out of ideas. I just keep thinking we are missing something obvious though. Have you contacted SD Support about this issue?

i have not yet because i thought it was something dumb and obvious...im almost positive its not my pc tho because the old mother board even tho the x axis motor pins were fine had no problem connecting to my pc and laptop
Unfortunately you might want to at least contact them so they are aware of your issues. That way if it is something with the board itself then they should send you a replacement.
