Topic: Diagnosis Confirmation.

Hey gang,
I recently moved my setup and sort of leaned on my x motor a bit. I didn't think anything of it but I have been having issues printing ever since. I went and adjusted my y belts, then again, then again, then again. Still to no avail. (See badprint01.jpg)

I finally got all of my supplies and added a fan so I can squeak some prints out now. (See printcomp01.jpg . Without fan on the left with fan on the right.)

The day before I got the fan I noticed that my x motor wobbles. I never noticed it before but TBH I wasn't really looking before.  Here's a link to a video of it wobbling. I think I need a new x motor, or can I just replace the shaft? Is that even really the problem?

I've done all of my step calibrations, x,y,z,e, flow rate, got a backlash mod (Didn't really need it TBH but I figured it couldn't hurt.) Done the belts as mentioned. I seem to have a skip in my x motor. Next time I print (tomorrow) I'll take a vid with a good skirt to show the skip.

Thanks for any advice any of you can give.

-Anton

Re: Diagnosis Confirmation.

PIRVAN would like to recall this post.  Wrong place.

Sorry....

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...
SD3 printer w/too many mods,  Printrbot Simple Maker Ed.,  FormLabs Form 1+
AnyCubic Photon, Shining 3D EinScan-S & Atlas 3D scanners...
...and too much time on my hands.

You might want to take a look at worm gears.  There is such a thing as Zero backlash worm gears.

With a centrally mounted motor at 90° to the shaft and some kind of "slip-on" worm gear on the shaft.  The nice thing would be that the motor is on the back of the Solidoodle, and only the motor shaft and gear protrudes through the case.  It could make for a very compact design.

I draw something up later and post it.

Wut? Worm gears have no place in 3D printers, except maybe in Z-axis.  Too slow and inefficient.

^^ and they usually have way more periodic error than other setups.

Hey pirvan,
Just wondering if you meant for this to be a reply to this post instead?

You're absolutely correct. I had two tabs opened, one with this thread and another with the Y- Axis gear drive.  I must have switched tabs inadvertently and posed n the wrong one.

Sorry about this guys... I'll get it right ...eventually.  Old age and all that.  sad
