Topic: Installing J-Head Hot End

I ordered a J-Head MKV hot end to fix certain printing issues and hopefully to allow me to print in wood. I have attached the heat core to the hot end and have attached the hot end to the acrylic stuff with sugru and am waiting to attach the thermistor for last because it seems fidgety, but I'm not sure how to attach the wires to the motor. I've looked on YouTube and seem to get conflicting or unclear instructions, do I need to solder or do I just need to heat shrink, or do I need a new set of wires altogether. I'm in over my head and I am worried that any step forward I take could be a big mistake, any and all advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Installing J-Head Hot End

If you are talking about the extruder stepper motor wires then yes they should be soldered(you need a good reliable connection) and put heat shrink over those connections.

The only connections that could be problematic with using solder is the one to the thermistor and the heating element if it is within a couple inches of the actual hotend as it can get hot enough to melt a soldered connection and therefore needs to be a crimp type connector.
