Topic: Question - Does the stock SD2 support a fan?

Or just soldering the pins are the only requirement? Its a Printrboard Rev. E. Purchased in Mid-March.

SD Press - v1 (Pre-order) / RAMPs /w DRV8825's / Cyclops (25w) / Dual Bowden / Mk8 Gear / MK2b PCB Heat bed /w custom replacement Z / PEI Bed
SD2 / E3D v6 / Direct Drive / Mk8 Gear / RAMBo v1.3 / PEI Bed / Anti Z backlash mod / Ikea Expedite enclosure.
Both Driven by Octoprint (devel) via a RPi B+ / Neopixel status alerts / GPIO Controlled SSR / (SD2) 450 Watt PSU for remote power-up/shutdown.

The board supports it if you add the pins.  You may have to flash the firmware to enable it depending on the version your currently running.

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL

It still has the stock firmware on it. But i just shows "1.0"

I really don't know if fan control is a firmware thing or not with that board as I have no real time with it.  I have an SD3 I bought used coming and I will try and figure it out in a couple of days.  I would say solder on the pins and find out.  The worst that can happen is you'll need to update the firmware.  That's my plan anyway.

Re: Question - Does the stock SD2 support a fan?

This was one of the tweaks I made, just used a couple of pins from a scrap printer and soldered them on, all good to go.  I used it initially for the hot end cooling, but the E3D mount kind of got a bit huge.  Now using a combined heatsink / hot end fan (always on) and using the "fan" settign to run a rear mounted electronics cooling fan (helps with running longer prints - preventing "lock up", I have found)

@MacGyverX - Read this thread.

I've had my SD2 about as long as you. I got a fan coming from China so when it get's here, if you're still in limbo, I'll post my results. But short answer is, It should.

I spliced into the light wire, then added a switch that I turn on when needed.

Re: Question - Does the stock SD2 support a fan?

I have ZERO electrical and soldering skills. Zero.
So what I did was purchase a 12v power supply, a four-way 3 pin connector (3 pin extension if needed), and a few fans off Amazon. As far as cooling goes, this made it very easy to upgrade my hot end, cool motors and my board, as well as a nozzle fan when needed. That way, I didn't have to solder, and it left multiple options open.
However, there is no option for gcode fan control using this method.

The Printrboard does have a spot to tap into for 12v for gcode controlled cooling. It will be in an area between the connectors: F-L_FAN_B-T. Solder a connector to that. Look into Mods/Hacks section of Soliforum. A SD4 user recently added a gcode controlled fan from his REV E. All newer Solidoodles have the same board.
