Topic: Red wire broke on Extruder SD3

In the process of disassembling the extruder to clean it, one of the ends of the red wire snapped off the metal box that screws onto the barrel. The other one is still attached. What procedures should I take to fix this or should I just go ahead and order an E3d hotend?

Upload a photo if you get a chance to confirm exactly where the break is, but unfortunately it's likely you'll need to order and wait for a new heater core from solidoodle to replace it ($15): http://store.solidoodle.com/index.php?r … duct_id=81
This part would be an easy swap-in fix.

Repairing in any case is likely only going to afford a temporary solution, which you might need if you wish to get the E3D instead and need to print out lawsy's mk5 extruder parts to go with it.

My vote is you just order up an E3D smile
Once you start fixing things on the stock hot end you never get to stop.
Also Filastruder will sell you an MK-5 for like $5 if you don't already have one printed.  As a plus the one he sells has been tweaked to fit the E3D better on the groove mount.

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

What a great idea! smile Be prepared for the firmware update in the meantime though; start reading!

You'll be happy to help him through that, I'm sure big_smile
