Topic: Question about support and repetier

Can you have infill on some spots on your model but not the whole thing?   I guessing no but i just wanted to make sure.  I ask because i have a model that needs it in only one spot (top of a hole on the side)  but the rest of it prints absolutely fine with no support.

Re: Question about support and repetier

You could redesign the model without infill simply by making all of you outer walls a certain thickness and make sure you don't enclose inside of the model but do enclose the wall structures.

Re: Question about support and repetier

Crap, sorry wrong terminology .......   Meant to say without support, not infill.   infill is fine.   i need to support some holes but nothing else on the model

Re: Question about support and repetier

the newest slic3r has support pillars, give it a try

My SD3:  Clear plexiglass case, case heater, X axis stabilizer, Z axis stabilizer, thumb screws, filament guide, heatsinks on all motors, extruder fan, controller fan, heatsinks on motherboard, Y rod pillow block, USB and Power on/off switch, fully calibrated including trimpot tuning. Am I missing anything?

Re: Question about support and repetier

LOL... I wasn't sure when you said support at the end of the post but... oh well smile

Like Photog says try the newest slicer... you may like it, otherwise it is best just to model in a pillar or two if that's all you need.

Re: Question about support and repetier

Another thing you can do it slice your model 2 different times with different settings.  For example, one hollowed out and one with infill and then cut and combine the 2 appropriate sections of the gcode into a third program and run that one......

Slic3r doesn't talk to your printer... do you mean new vanilla repetier is not talking to your printer? I've had no trouble with repetier 0.95F talking to my SD3 (stock firmware, rev E SD printrboard) using these settings: http://wiki.solidoodle.com/repetier-hos … on-windows Baud rate = 250000 was important, and COM port needs to be the right number...

In any case, it should be possible to copy-paste any old slic3r directory into the repetier host program folder (removing/backing up the old one) and new slic3r will be good to go within whichever repetier works for you.

Re: Question about support and repetier

How new is the newest slic3r? I updated to the latest one about 6 weeks ago. Is there a newer one? I have support materials but not support pillars. Anyway the support stuff is in the Slic3r settings. Click on the 'Configure Slic3r' button in Repetier and it will load the Slic3r options. I'd walk you through it more but I'm not near my set up and I can't recall all of the details right now.

Re: Question about support and repetier

its in 1.10 experimental - the current download if you click download from slic3r.org

Re: Question about support and repetier

i know where the support options are, just never saw a pillar option, although now that i have it installed and printed once, i have a new question.  it seems when i use support now, it creates a constant support wall around the entire object, unlike the  software that came with the sd download, that just supported what needed to be supported, examples are

old software

New Software

same side on both.    new software has a HELL of a lot more material, kinda seems like a waste to me.   Is there an option to stop that effect or is that it?

Re: Question about support and repetier

Switch to 1.10 experimental - your g-code comment states your still on 1.0.0RC1? the problem got fixed I know in RC3.. but 1.10exp has the pillar support (which is now the default support method)..

So go to 1.0.0RC3, 1.0.0 Stable, or 1.10Exp...

Re: Question about support and repetier

ok just dl-ed 1.1.1 but do i use it separately or can i get it into repetier?   and if so ...... how!?!?!?!?    lol

Re: Question about support and repetier

just replace the slic3r folder in the repetier-host program folder with the slic3r folder in the new zip folder you downloaded...

Or you can use it standalone (some people like the layer-height change control that slic3r gives, allowing you to do different layer heights at different layers in the model.. so 0.3mm for the 'plynth' of something, then 0.1 for the actual detailed model, etc etc).

Re: Question about support and repetier
