Topic: Best way to mount a QU-BD Bed?

I've got an SD3, and picked up a QU-BD bed.  I had originally thought about putting it on top of the existing bed, but didn't realize how much the one side bulges due to the wires.  I recently removed the borosilicate glass and put Ultem 1000 on the aluminum direct, but thinking with the QU-BD I need a piece of glass or tile?  Just curious how other's are dealing with the bulge?

Thanks!

I think I remember seeing a few threads on here of how people added QUBD bed to their SD's, probably in the hacks and mods section.

I've got one I haven't installed yet. My plan is to use something like plaster to build a custom shaped shell for the heater to sit in (and maybe even embed some threaded rods in the plaster for mounting things like clips to hold glass on top). Just plans though, no idea how well it might work...

Re: Best way to mount a QU-BD Bed?

Where you mount it will depend on the size of the the bed you bought.  If you bought a 6x6 one, you can mount it at the bottom just like the original Soldodoole one.  If you bought the 8x8, then you'll have to mount it on top, becuase you can't dril holes thorough it for the 3 mounting screws.

I opted for a 6x6 model, and mounted it in place of the original.  You can see my thread here:

Eventually I also upgraded the wooden print platform to the aluminum version, and also replaced the aluminum bed with a solid copper version

You'll also need an upgraded power supply if you haven't already got one.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...

Thanks for the info guys, exactly what I was looking for.  Yes I did get a dedicated supply for it as the Rumba handily has a separate DC input for the bed smile

I know right! I found them in the depths of a Chinese website. I had to buy in bulk to offset the shipping cost so I have extras to sell.

Re: Best way to mount a QU-BD Bed?

Its an 8"x8" (200mm x 200mm) and Its 175watts so she might be a little to powerful for any stock power configuration. 100k thermistor built in. Im thinking $30 shipped free from the US.

175 watts is a little smaller than I like to use.  How's the heat up time? (assuming adequate power supply)
I have 2 SD 3's that need an upgrade but I don't need to go overboard like on my primary SD3 with 500 watts.

Re: Best way to mount a QU-BD Bed?

Shipping to Oz kills it for me. I'd have got one to throw in with the new heated-bed roundup I have on the way but its twice the price of the bed itself just for shipping.

If you can sort that out somehow I'll throw one in the mix...
