Topic: Slic3r error only on galaxy S3 cases?

Hi everyone, I'm getting a slic3r error and, strangely, it is only when I try to slice any Samsung Galaxy S3 case.  I've tried all of the following from thingiverse, both with out without netfab cloud fixing:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:226464/#files

Here is the error I am getting:

I'm really at a loss and any help would be appreciated.  I can print literally anything else fine but I can't get a single phone case to work!  Any ideas?

Thanks!

I have gotten that error before on my own designs.  A simple test is up the scale by 5 or 10 percent and see if it slices that way.  If it does then the problem is dimensional in nature and you can cheat your way around it by changing your nozzle diameter settings.  Of course this can open a whole other can of worms.  Basically Slic3r is coming across some dimension in the design that it just can't figure out how to make it work out as multiples of your nozzle diameter.  Usually small detail stuff causes the problem.  If it is a design of my own it is easy enough to use dimensions that at a multiple of the nozzle diameter when working in the finer detail parts of the design.  The other thing that can cause this is if you have perimeters set to high and the design doesn't have enough room for all the perimeters.  For example an area of the print needs to be 3mm across and you have 4 perimeters set in the profile.  That would be 1.92 mm's for each side for a total of 3.84 mm's. so the perimeters would have to collide and Slic3r can't deal with that so you'll get that error.

Those are the two situations that have caused that for me.  I would start at the number of perimeters set first.  Something like a phone case should be printed solid any way so you only need a couple of perimeters.

Thanks for the info.  Scaling it up did not allow it to slice and neither did changing number of shells anywhere from 0- 4.  I'm not sure where to change my nozzle diameter and I'm not sure I would want to mess with that anyway.  Any other ideas?

Are you sure you changed to that profile after you made and saved the changes.  What file link is it I'll try and slice it and see what I come up with.  Sometimes the file is just bad and not printable.

Yup, I just doubled checked that I was in the right profile.  Can you try the second link in the OP?  I would definitely be interested to see how other people get it to work.

So what are your settings?  I had no problems

Re: Slic3r error only on galaxy S3 cases?

I'm not sure what I'm looking for in your picture but my settings are all pretty standard for 0.3mm layers.  I can slice literally anything else, including objects with thin edges so I'm still pretty lost here.

If your layers and perimeters are set the same along with extruder width it should slice.  What version of Slic3r are you using?

Also,I did run it through nettfab I can send you that file if you want to try it.

Re: Slic3r error only on galaxy S3 cases?

Well, I uninstalled repetier and manually deleted remaining files then reinstalled it and updated to the newest 1.0.0 stable slic3r and it worked!  I may never really know why it wouldn't slice before... but it looks like I'm good to go now.  Just have to recalibrate my extrusion settings tonight, I wish I had written those down before!

Think of it this way "Practice Makes Perfect"  and with an SD you will get plenty of practice.  Once you really dial it in though it's good for a quite a while.
