Topic: Solidoodle motor not responding

Hey guys. Still a noob and I need some help! Just got my Solidoodle a few days ago and everything was printing fine. Now the wheels that extrude and retract the filament are not responding when I hit the buttons in Repetier. I have looked online for a solution but I havnt really found anything. If you guys could help me out that would be great! I need to start printing soon :0 Thanks!

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

Can you move the the x,y and z motors? Home each one?

SD3, E3D hotend,linear bearing on x/y axis',pillow block bearing on y conneting rod, ball bearngs on front y axis, fan on y stepper motor.

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

yeah. I can move the extruder and bed fine. Its just the wheels that retract and extrude the filament.

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

Look in the log - do you have an error listed? Have you power cycled (power and USB) the printer?

5

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

I get a "cold extruder prevented" in the log. How do I go about power cycling the power and usb? I have taken them out and plugged them back in a few times to see if it the connection would be better.

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

It actually says "cold extrusion prevented".

Now lets think about this... can you extrude plastic while cold? No, you can't. Plastic is solid at room temperature. Sure sounds like a protection feature kicking in because you're not at the set temperature! roll

Power cycling is plugging/unplugging. They're digital electronics, there's no such thing as a "better connection". Either the connection is good enough, or it isn't.

I promised myself I'd be more patient in my posts this week, but I'm already running out of serenity. 3D printing isn't that hard - you just have to apply a few neurons...

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

There is no filament currently in the extruder. It was able to retract even while cooled before. I will try and it again when heated and see if it works out.

No, it wasn't.

    if(degHotend(active_extruder)<EXTRUDE_MINTEMP && !allow_cold_extrude)
    {
      position[E_AXIS]=target[E_AXIS]; //behave as if the move really took place, but ignore E part
      SERIAL_ECHO_START;
      SERIAL_ECHOLNPGM(MSG_ERR_COLD_EXTRUDE_STOP);

The extruder will not move unless the hot end is up to a min temp.  If your are unable to extrude or retract once up to temp let me know and I would be happy to help you out.

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

Thanks man!  Really appreciate it. I have the extruder at 200C but its still not retracting or extracting. Still nothing in my PM box.

He was talking to me about PMs.

Is it actually at 200C, or just set there? What's it say at the bottom of repetier-host (RH)?

Just saw these warnings on the bottom of my screen. Extruder is reading 200.50C

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

So to be clear - the extruder is reading ~200C, you click the down arrow, nothing happens, and no new entry occurs in the log?

Sorry about that had to step away for a minute.
You should start by checking your connections.  If it was working fine before it would seem to me that you should pay attention to the extruder and thermistor connections.
And yes I was talking to elmoret about PM
If you would rather move the conversation there just PM me.

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

It has started working again. I undid the side wheel and brushed a bit with a new unused toothbrush before it was heated up. Just clicked the the extrude and retract buttons and it works fine now. Thanks for assisting me guys! This community is pretty great and responds fast!

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

I just think its clogged now. The filament is coming out very thin and curly.

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

Do you know how to clean it out?

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

I saw the video with trying to purge it out with a fresh filament, but its not working out. There is filament coming out  gradually though. I heard acetone could do it, but im a little iffy disassembling the machine.

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

Watching this video now to look into cleaning it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQohJtS4wrE

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

What temp do you have it running at now?

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

I bumped it up to 205 to try and melt out any cloggs as the guy in the video demonstrated. Still clogged i believe

Re: Solidoodle motor not responding

So you can pull it apart and try to clean it out or try the guitar string trick.  My advice would be to just order the E3D.
